I have had both a 9-gallon and a 15-gallon Flex before, and with both tanks, the lights stopped working after a few years. The replacement light from Fluval, with shipping, costs about $60. Against my better judgment, I bought another Flex 15-gallon because it was on sale and is a pretty tank for the money. I spent hours setting it up and getting it planted and then turned the lights on. When I tried to turn the lights off, though, the sensor would not respond to the remote. I tested the remote battery, and it was fine. I tried the remotes from the previous two Flex tanks I had, and neither of them would work either. The sensor is faulty and worked only one time. Even if Fluval replaces it, it is incredibly frustrating and the plants may die in the meantime. Another fault with this tank is that it has a tiny filter inside the pump that needs to be cleaned every time you do a water change. This filter is trouble to access, so cleaning it takes easily as much time as the entire rest of the maintenance. I really do not recommend this tank.
I purchased this as an upgrade to my kiddos tank because i preferred the “behind the scenes” filtration to remove the components from the fish “world” as i had one fish get stuck behind an interior filter and die. This works like a charm. Only downside- like other sites will claim- the flow is not adjustable so its a heftier output than a betta would like- however fluval came ip with a slow flow attachment for it which we plan to get. Also- in the exterior- the chambers can get quite dirty and are a bit of a paint to clean. Have to use your hands- not many scrubbers fit. But overall it looks great and is easy to clean the interior with now poor “visual” from the pump and filters. Also- our first tank was broken but we were able to get a replacement easily. Not sure what other reviews meant by filter does not work- but this is for fresh water fish and our filter has worked great. Its all mechanical drop ins so one can always create more filtration media drop ins as needed. Or add another pump filter. Theres room.
This tank is the best and the filter is the absolute best. The light is also so cool with the colors! Love it!
I have my guppies, snails and pleco's to keep me stress free while I work
I lost my 2 five year old angel fish, when I moved them to this tank. I have had aquariums for years, so yes...I did rinse everything thoroughly in hot water and ran/cycled the tank for 2-3 days before introducing my fish. The next morning, the tank had white cloud and one fish was dead. the food I fed them the night before was still floating. I did a water change but too late to save the fish #2. I finally removed the black foam filter that Fluval provided with the tank, shoved a blue filter in the shaft from my old tank. The tank is clear now and I have one fish remaining.
The filter doesn’t work I ended up buying a sponge filter to filter my glofish that I have in here because the original filter does not work
I think this tank is almost perfect. The light is good for growing plants and the pump is good and has decent flow. The media and sponge is okay but you can always add what ever you want for filtration.
