These are solid sturdy posts. We bought one the beginning of Feb when we adopted a shelter kitty with claws and another the beginning of Apr when we adopted a rescue older kitten. I honestly cannot tell which is which. Our declawed senior, 3 yr old and 13 mo old kitties live on these things. They have not even attempted to scratch things they are not supposed to but we have plenty of outlets for them to scratch away. They are well used and barely show wear, our 13 month old uses them as part of an obstacle course at night when we play to wear him out, lots of jumping and hanging off the sides. The faux fur is looking a little ratty but the sisal is holding up. Oh for reference all of our kitties are 8.4lbs and easily fit in the top of the post, Hasil rarely sits on it he lays on it hanging off and commonly scratches his claws while laying on it. Also, the box is a permanent structure in our house, all cats love boxes but this one is their favorite! No regrets!
Great scratching post
My 8 cats seem to love this tall post as it lets them really get a good stretch when they rear up on it and of course they like to play king of the scratch post top. I purchased this one because it seems to be built a little tougher than a different brand I bought before which only lasted maybe 2 months before being totally destroyed lol and it’s held up great so far I would like to warn anyone considering this post that although the base is fairly heavy my cats have managed to knock it over twice and it could seriously injure any cat if it was to hit them but it is a well built scratching post I would recommend to anyone
My cat loves it!
I done a lot of research on scratching posts for cats. I knew I needed a tall one (my cat is one year old) and I knew I needed a sturdy one (he's always climbing on things). I read several reviews for this post and thought I would give it a shot. Out of the box, it was pretty simple to assemble. Once I got it put together, my cat sniffed it but wasn't sure what to do with it. I scratched on it, trying to get him to play. Still no action. My husband suggested for me to put catnip on it. So, I rubbed cat nip along the length of the post and placed a small bit on the base. That was all it took! My cat absolutely loves it! This is the first thing he goes for when he goes upstairs. I have only had the product for about two weeks, and I have no complaints. The one I have for him downstairs is a little smaller so it's only reasonable it would take him time to get used to the bigger one. Catnip broke the ice and my cat couldn't be happier.
Wish my cats could figure this one out..
The post itself is well made and appears to be good quality. Unfortunately, my two boys don’t seem to possess the brain cell often enough to figure out that this is a scratching post. Might be because it’s a novel material to them; it’s not sisal or cardboard. I’ve tried scratching myself on it to mimic, catnip, and pleading to no avail. I think this may just turn into a catnip plant stand since they have zero interest in using it as a scratcher
My cat loves it!
My budget was tight but I went a little outside of it to ensure success-- and it worked. I have a long, thin cat- a lithe 11-12 lbs. With that kind of build I worried he'd be taller than most options, so I chose this almost 3 foot tall scratcher. It arrived in a timely manner, and in a maneuverable package that seemed under my doctor recommended 15lb limit. When I opened the package there was a scent I couldn't quite identify but it definitely wasn't that plastic-warehouse smell you get with a lot of shipped goods. Having worked with animals for a long time I know I'm able to smell pheromones more than many people and I believe that may be what I smelled. It was easy enough to build, and much thicker and sturdier of a product than I expected, which was awesome. As soon as it was built and I moved it to where the cats know their toys are, my big boy was using it in less than a minute, literally. I've caught him using it many times already today-- he loves it!! I haven't caught my girl using it yet, and she's really who needs to, but I think if I move it closer to her current favorite piece of furniture to scratch she may start using it. Just put it together today and felt really compelled to write a review because of how pleasantly surprised I was. Well worth the money, even if it seems outside of your budget! I wanted to include pictures but my phone is being a brat about uploading them.
This scratching post is just what my cats needed. It is just a perfect height. They can stretch their body out full length and really get a good, satisfying scratch. They love the platform on top. Usually one is sitting on the top and one is scratching the post. It is large enough that two can scratch and stretch at the same time. I am very pleased with this purchase. Nicely heavy duty. My cats love this.
A winner for both kittens
Two kittens (sisters) who love to stretch out a front paw and flex their claws (usually in furniture or my leg!) so I was looking for something that they would enjoy more. This has been a hit with both of them. Now when I hear scratching, and look for where it's coming from, I most often see one of them at this post. It's sturdy, and tall enough for a good stretch, and they love to perch on the top of it for a feeling of height and a good view of their domain. Thanks!
When this arrived, the package looked HUGE compared to what I was expecting. Super simple assembly - took 5 mins. And this thing is massive. Which is what I wanted. All 3 of my babies LOVE it! A few months ago, my mother purchased the llama upright scratcher, and this towers over it. Now my babies can stretch out and scratch, which is natural for cats to do. ANOTHER GREAT ONE CHEWY! Thank you!!!
Love this stand
I have 5 cats and have many scratchers of different types around the house but none were really tall. One of my cats is a big boy who likes to stretch when he scratches. I reviewed several products and decided to try this one. I have to say it was a big hit. All of the cats use it constantly. I placed it right near the basement door and it's the first thing they go for when I open the door. Besides scratching, they like to jump up and sit on the top. Best of all, my big boy can stretch all the way to the top to scratch. It has a heavy base that is hard to knock over but not impossible. It can tip if a heavy cat decides to climb up the side instead of jumping. That has happened only once. So just be aware. Even so, my cats use it so much that I am going to purchase another one for the basement area.
Top is really small
I wish the platform on top was a little bigger. My kitty gets a good stretch but he won't go up there. Though I guess it would be hard for kitty to get up there if it was wider as it'd be hard to get under, around and up over it. It looks fairly nice. I picked this because it was the most affordable , best looking of the tall scratchposts. It is pretty massive considering kitty hasn't used it a lot. He still likes scratching my chair, but he has enjoyed a few good scratches on this product in the first 48 hours.
