My cats took to it right away, which was great. But their claws continued to get caught in the fabric material, posing a huge risk for I jury. I first removed the ball because of this and replaced it with a different toy. But then I found my cat dragging THE WHOLE THING by her claw because she couldn't free herself. That's literally the point of this toy is for scratching! So, for now, I unscrewed the top part, which is the part that looks like the cactus, and it is now just a plain looking post. The post is fine, and we haven't had anyone get stuck, but it's not the asthetic I paid for!
FYI: Cats do a job on scratching posts - they just do. That's the whole point. I don't get the dismay and complaining about it. Know that when you buy one of these, depending on your cat (or cats) behaviors- you'll probably need to replace it every couple of years. I've had this particular model now for about that - it's actually still in pretty good shape. A little loose at the base but I JUST threw away the Allen wrench that cane with it so I can't tighten. HOLD ONTO THAT WRENCH! But I love this cactus and I'm about to order another one. It goes great with the 'western' accents in my den.
This is so cute! I love the shade of green and the soft fabric base and top:) Both my cat & my sis' love this post and use it multiple times a day! They just love it so much it's starting to come apart. I was hoping i could buy a replacement post for it, as it all comes as separate pieces, but looks like that isnt an option yet:/ still so happy with this and do recommend! I think this post is nicer than others with a hard base bc the cats like to spin around it and chase their tails or just stretch out on it. (my sis has a wooden base one and they never use it for that reason). I have had this for almost 3 months now.
I got two of these for my two roommates' cats two years ago for Christmas and they are still intact. They were never upright for more than ten minutes because the cats could knock them over very easily, but they'd still scratch them tipped over. But they'd knock them over as soon as they were up, so they're very well-loved! I'd suggest getting a block of wood to go underneath their bases and screwing them to it if you want a better chance of staying upright, but this is a great product! Also a great gift because it's super cute!
I am very bad about ordering things for my cat and them sitting until my husband or son puts them together, which of course is what happened with this item. Otherwise, I would have requested a return for sure!!!! It didn’t even make it a week and it started wobbling. Maybe my cat is too rough or something. Although the other brand we had lasted (matter fact is still standing). I only got a new one because the “fabric” was worn on the original post. Not a fan at all! It was cute for like five minutes.
While this scratching post was easy to assemble, it is very flimsy and easy for my (very small) cat to pull over. She actually won't use it anymore because it falls over when she scratches the cactus. I've picked it up and a few times after it topples over and would have never gotten rid of the packaging, but was not home when my husband assembled it.
we needed to dispose of a long lived, long loved short scratching post. it was in shreds. hello cactus! the guys took to it right away. i cant speak to longevity yet, but the guys love it. add a little nip and everyone parties!
My big boys love these cat trees. The first one came and I was shocked at its size. Why? Who knows. The measurements are right in the specifications. I guess I didn’t pay close enough attention. Or maybe I just didn’t know how big that would make it. Either way my 19 lb cat (part Maine Coon) finally has a scratching post that will fit his frame! My other two love them too.
I’ve never seen my cat so excited about a scratching post. She loves it. It’s so much cuter than the normal beige ones you see around. I probably should have bought the taller one because the smaller size isn’t big enough for her to stretch out. Easy to put together and decently made. Overall, I would buy it again.
Rugs, my cat loves this scratching post as much as his smaller cactus scratching post. First thing he tried to knock over like he would do with the smaller counterpart and found he could climb it some. So easy to assemble that I didn’t even use the instruction. About 5 minutes .
