I'm sorry but this is the worst mat rake I've ever used. It doesn't get under mats, you literally have to use your thumb to push the mat onto the rake (while hanging onto the pet) and then work it. Because of the widely curved tips it DOES keep you from hurting/breaking the skin but, as I said, they also prevent the tool from getting under the mat. This is a really bad thing when I'm working with an animal that has NO patience, it ends up requiring multiple sessions...
My Pom always ends up with undercoat caught in the guard hairs like little dreads, no matter how much I brush or come him. This comb slid ALL the little dreads right out of his coat like magic! You do have to be gentle because it will still pull if the fur is knotted, but I swear, in a short amount of time I brushed off enough fur to create a litter of puppies. He is so much more comfortable now and all that hair went in the trash instead of being deposited all over the carpet and furniture. This thing is a definite win!
We got a bunch of snow a few weeks ago and we all know what a towel can do to a dog with fine hair. The comb and brush I had was not cutting it. This one works wonderfully for getting through mats.
This tool helps dematt my pup but it is rather clumsy to use. Maybe it was designed for left handed people?
Worked well for my cats.
