We already had the Frisco 8 panel dog gate/playpen and use it as a play enclosure for our puppy. That's why I went with this brand again to purchase 2 gates for our stairways. They work great! They were very easy to install by myself. I like that they self close, but will stay open if opened wide. I needed them to be 42 inches and they fit perfectly with the widest extension. The description is very clear about what size opening it will fit. I didn't want to drill into our walls so I purchased some wall protectors specifically made for this from another site. The gates are very secure.
We have an 11 pound terrier puppy we didn't want upstairs. This gate between the bottom post and the wall (about 43 inches) effectively managed this. The gate is secure in place. We did not use the cups, as we didn't want to damage the wood or wall. Our dog does not jump against it, so the spring action is good enough to keep it in place. The metal gate and side pieces are of good construction and durability. It also stands up to the frequent passage of a four year old boy.
We had a wooden gate that did the job, but as she’s getting taller by the second. Her paws would catch in the waffle pattern of the gate. We knew she would soon be able to climb over it. We looked at many gates but the opening of our stairs is an odd size. We loved that this gate offered extensions, was a great price and said it was an easy install. While the install was relatively easy, it did take a bit longer than the estimated 10 mins. The extensions made this gate a perfect fit. The bars meant she can no longer try to climb the gate and then the super easy open and close latch is awesome. An added bonus is the way it will close automatically behind you if opened less than 90 degrees and stay open if opened 90 or more. It looks nice and works very well. This is a Great gate.
The gate is great. It gets a lot of traffic thru it. I like the hold open feature. After about 2 years that feature stopped working but the rest of the gate still worked. After 3 years the latch broke and no repair parts were available. Ordered the same gate again.
If I could rate it a "10" I would! We had previously bought a fairly cheap wood frame gate that we had to climb over every time. This is so wonderful to be able to walk through. My advice, read lots of the reviews. READ THE DIRECTIONS AND DON'T CUT THE ZIP TIES ON THE GATE UNTIL FULLY INSTALLED. It took my husband about 15 minutes to set up and install. Works great and looks great!!
I wanted to keep my dogs out of the kitchen and from getting to the front door. I needed something to fit this small space that was easy to put up and very sturdy. I was using a wooden gate, but it kept getting either chewed on or knocked down. This was the perfect size and it’s convenient to use with the locking swing gate to go in and out. I was having to completely take the other one up and down every time I wanted to walk through, while struggling to keep the dogs from running by. I’m also renting and not allowed to screw anything into the wall. I purchased wall protectors to help keep the gate secure. My daughter loved it so much that I bought one for her house too.
This solved so many of my problems with my bunnies chewing the wood or plastic gates so this walk-in gate was so easy to set up and it works beautifully and my Bunnies just sit outside and stare and try to figure out how to get into the room to no avail! Well worth the price in it that the price is very inexpensive!
Beware, if your door is between 32 and 36 inches -within the “range” of this gate- this gate WILL NOT work. Extremely disappointed and incredibly frustrated. Even though it says doorways 29in+, it won’t work for all!
We use ours on the back porch so that the dogs cane have access to their puppy porch during the day. It’s sturdy, easy to put together and trustworthy. My 80 lab would put her feet up on it and it wouldn’t budge.
We bought three of these to keep our new puppy confined to the tile floors and we're very happy with them. They were very well packaged, installation was a breeze, and they come with enough extensions to cover the gaps we needed to cover -- which in our partially open floor plan are almost exactly 3 feet, 4 feet, and 5 feet wide. They're easy to use one-handed and we like that they stay open if we open them far enough -- like when we're taking the puppy for a walk or when she's crated at night. I held back from the fifth star for only one reason that I'm sure is pretty uncommon: One of the gaps we needed to cover has a half wall on one side, with molding on the top corners. With the widest extension that would fit in the space, the extension is so close to the wall that we couldn't turn the thumb screw to tension the gate because it hit the molding. With the next widest extension, the gaps are a little bit wider than we would like; when our pup was 10 weeks old, she could get her head, but not her body, through those gaps. She's 12 weeks old now and her head doesn't fit anymore, but we had to watch her pretty closely for a while there. Unless you have a similar situation, you won't have to worry about this.
