I received my first product with rust on the door handles, chewy promptly sent me a new one to replace it. I received my new product and after one use it's already bent from use. I was excited to try this as a safe space for my 55# dog, but it's not strong enough. There was a toy apparently just outside the kennel and he managed to pull the soft plushie toy through the bars and this is how the bars bent. If a wire kennel bends under the force of a soft plush toy being pulled through the bars, then it should not be trusted to keep a dog in it unsupervised.
My puppy Frenchie needs to be supervised while in this playground pen. It is not safe. My little pup can move it clear across the living room. I do not recommend this enclosure. Instead, I recommend a kennel if the dog is to be left alone. Perhaps outside the playpen would be great for someone as it comes with little forks to pound into the ground. I just don't need this as I have a large kennel outside with a dog door to go in and out of the house. Being I purchased my new French Bulldog, I wanted everything safe for him. Kennels are more like dens. I much prefer my kennels. I'm sorry for this poor review.
We bought this for our new puppy so he could have a safe space to be left alone if we could not supervise him directly. It is great for that purpose, and is very easy to set up and reconfigure the shape. As others have said, the ends of the vertical bars are a little sharp and will snag on clothes or carpets and would probably scratch hard floors. We set ours up so that our puppy has access to his crate from inside the pen (by attaching the pen directly to the crate) which has worked really well but revealed one drawback: there is no way to reconfigure the gate. It is set in one specific panel and there’s no way to make it swing in the opposite direction. If you were to lay the pen out flat on the floor, the gate is on the far right panel. So in order for us to have his crate/pen where we want them, we had to set it up so that the gate swings inward which is not working out very well. So we’ll have to get creative and move things around.
This play pen is very flimsy and came bent in Stange areas. Nothing like the play pens I have purchased in the past. The gate opening is very difficult to operate. It fell over my puppy when it just barely touched it.
Our puppy is now partly paralyzed because the top latch failed while we were away. We came home to our puppy hanging halfway out because the latch came undone, she was stuck between the door and the side. She is now partly paralyzed. We're devastated that our new puppy got so horribly injured because of this pen. I would give 0 stars if I could.
I put this pen up indoors for my Cavalier just for potty training purposes. Worked really well. Then, I had it outside for a short time. But it's not big enough around for an outdoor pen. So I'm going to purchase another one and link them together. It conveniently folds up for storage.
Glad we bought this in anticipation of rescuing a dog. The 36inch option ended up being perfect for a 1 year old samoyed. He doesn't exactly love it yet, as we're still trying to get him accustomed to it. But it has already been a tremendous help as just a border for a space we haven't necessarily puppy proofed.
The size and price of this play pen is good. It's not expensive as a good starter. Although because of this, don't expect the stableness and quality of the pen. For my 4 pounds puppy, it fit well for him. Will wait to see, once the puppy gaining weight, how does the create will handle. Rating it as 4 stars, as the connections of the pen at the door is very sharp. Be aware don't scratch your hands or the puppy's belly. To better have it on the hardwood floor, it's better to place a mat or carpet underneath it.
This playpen is absolutely NOT safe for puppies. We have a boxer puppy. We have tried this playpen for her twice. NEVER again will we put her in it. Both times her paw has gotten STUCK in it. We cane home last night and her paw was so swollen at least twice the size and cut from her trying to pull it out. It continues to get stuck where you close the walls together. We have followed the directions to a T and it doesn't matter.
All of the points where the wires are welded together are so sharp that it catches on my skin. Even just arranging and moving the cage is a hazard. It snagged on my carpet just when we took it out of the box, so there's no way we could have it sitting on our hardwood floors without destroying it. On one edge of the cage, a stray burr just points out, not even on a welded spot. The sharp edges are on the connections throughout the middle, too, and because my rabbit chews and paws on cage bars, I can't risk him catching his tongue or toes on such sharp metal. When taking pictures of the pen, my sleeves repeatedly snagged on random joints. I wasn't expecting this to be the most beautifully polished piece of metal ever, but I am simply appalled by how poorly this is made. I would give it zero stars if I could. I am so disappointed with this product and the hassle of now having to return it.
