Well built, Strong, Very Large, well packaged
The 54" Frisco XX-Large Heavy Duty Double Door Wire Dog Crate is well made and great for large and huge breed dogs. The instructions are adequate and the "How to Assembly" video on the Chewy page supplements the printed instructions! I read the 1 Star reviews and was skeptical to the point I opened the box very carefully with the intent of having to send the crate back. Those who had trouble assembling it either didn't read the instructions, were unable to read the instructions, or just were inept. Our dog trainer, Loyal Companions LLC recommended Chewy and this Frisco crate. They use them for the large breed dogs they are training to be "Service Dogs" and said they were well made. Once assembled the Frisco XX-Large crate is very stable and the "floor" is more than strong enough for me (250lbs) to walk on. The video does tell you to do that, but that should be obvious. The THREE door latches on EACH door make it nearly impossible for the dog to open. We tried placing a "soft bed" in the crate, but it caused our dog to pant and try to remove it. We may try a piece of carpet, but that is to make us feel better about his "Bed". If your dog bends or destroys parts of this crate to get out you NEED to enroll yourself and him/her in obedience and/or antianxiety class as the problem is beyond a crate. Our dog receives a treat whenever we tell him to go in the crate, after a month he now goes in without being told to and looks for his treat. We wanted a crate and not a jail cell. If you use the crate as punishment, you have failed your dog!
We’ve owned this for 2 years for our Cane Corso. She’s 110 lbs and this has stood the test of time. We’re buying a second for our Neo Mastiff ‘puppy’ (100lbs) because this is the biggest and best we’ve found. The coating on the metal is great. Easy to dust off dirt with a swiffer or cloth. The plastic tray is durable; no cracks after 2 years. It’s easy to wipe down and clean too. The best thing is the dual doors too. We’ve moved this crate a few times and it’s awesome to not be concerned with the orientation. Now that we’ll own two they’ll be placed lengthwise (end to end) against the wall and the pups will use the side doors. It’s really the least intrusive option for such large crates. Oh and the triple lock is ideal! We’ve never once been worried she might escape, even if we forgot to lock on of them there’s still two more. Very secure! Highly recommend for any giant breed owners out there. Both our pups have enough room. I’d probably assume that a Dane or English Mastiff could fit in there too. It’s truly the biggest and best we’ve found.
Huge and Durable!!!
My 100lb german shepherd mix loves his crate! I bought it specifically so that he could completely stretch out when he wanted to. He is a big dog, but doesn't come close to taking up all the space. A great Dane would definitely be comfortable in this massive castle sized crate! It's been almost 2 years and it's in near perfect shape, other than it being covered in fur.
My Great Dane broke out within the first ten minutes of being in this crate. She barley pushed at the door and all three latches failed and she walked right out. The next time she bent the entire door (again, without much effort). This crate was not strong enough in any way to contain a dog big enough to need a crate this size.
Bad Quality Not Heavy Duty
This product has been broken by my dog twice within a month. The welds do not hold up. If this is supposed to be a heavy duty kennel make it heavy duty. I will not buy this again. I appreciate Chewy allowing me to return the first one that broke and sending me a new one but I can't keep returning kennels. Please improve the strength of this kennel for the price we're paying.
we had trouble putting together, because impatient spouse doesn't want read instructions, the details are very important so as to not have to take apart and put back. Now is huge, really just like the picture, but works great...plently of room for my 130 lb 33 inch tall doberman to turn, sleep in, can actually hold two dogs if one is 50 lbs !
Riley's New Indoor Crate
This is Riley's perfect indoor sleeping space as a growing Bernese Mountain Dog Husky mix puppy when he's not running around on his five acre homestead. This crate gives him plenty of room to stand up or stretch out during nap time.
Perfect for a huge dog!
Our 110 pound dog is going to have knee surgery so we needed a way to confine him while he recovers. This cage is perfect for him. I purchased a thick, soft bed for it and he is happy to go in the cage. The cage is sturdy and was not too difficult to assemble. The only downside was it was a bit damaged in shipping and we had to bend it in several places to get it assembled.
once put together it’s okay
Ordered the 54” and took it out of the package, at first glance I noticed the paint is already rusting off and the kennel tray has gouges all over it. When we were assembling the kennel we noticed that a lot of the loops were completely bent in half like to the side. For $200 I would expect a much higher quality product. Definitely need to figure out some type of better packaging. Lesson learned I’ll buy the next kennel at farm and home like my previous ones.
Extra Huge Kennel
This kennel is definitely a 2 person assembly job as is stated in the directions, but once assembled it is everything I wanted for my Irish Wolfhound. It is big enough for a couch cushion and room around it.
