Furosemide Tablets are prescribed in the treatment of swelling associated with heart failure, especially when the swelling is caused by water retention. It's a proven diuretic—a medication that helps remove excess fluid from the body—and saluretic—a medication excess sodium from the kidneys. By relieving the body of excess fluid and sodium, it helps to relieve inflammation and its unpleasant symptoms. Customers may receive this drug under the names Lasix, Frusomide, Salix.

Furosemide is a diuretic used to remove excess fluid from the body. It's indicated in the treatment of congestive heart failure, some other heart diseases, pulmonary edema, certain kidney diseases, high blood pressure, high potassium level in the blood, ascites (fluid in the abdomen), and certain kinds of tissue edema (swelling).

Possible Side Effects

Dehydration with excessive thirst and increased or decreased urine production have been reported. Electrolyte imbalances (e.g., low sodium, potassium, or calcium), often with rapid heart rate, weakness, depression, vomiting, and restlessness are also possible. If you see any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately. Rarely, pets may see an increase in blood glucose level, anemia, pale gums, tiredness, or weakness. A decrease in white blood cells, (making your pet more susceptible to infections) and stomach or intestinal disorders (with vomiting or diarrhea) are also possible, but rare.

Drug & Food Interactions

Consult your veterinarian before using furosemide with any other medications, including vitamins and supplements.

Do not use in animals with known allergies to Furosemide or sulfa drugs. Furosemide will cause your pet to urinate more often. Your pet may have more accidents and need to go outside more. Use with caution in pets with kidney disease and diabetes. Do not use in animals with anuria (inability to produce urine), progressive kidney disease, electrolyte imbalances, water loss (dehydration), liver disease, diabetes mellitus, vomiting, or diarrhea. Do not use in pregnant or lactating females.

NOTE: For Generic Medications, picture displayed may not depict actual product. Generic medications may vary from one order to the next by size, color and shape depending on manufacturer. Customers may receive the same drug under the names Lasix, Furosemide, Salix.

What is Furosemide?

This is an oral tablet that works as a diuretic in order to help to remove excess fluid from the body when additional fluid develops in the body as a result of heart disease, fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema), kidney disease, and liver disease. It is also sometimes used to manage hypertension (high blood pressure).

What are the benefits of Furosemide?

  • Generic option that works well.
  • Helps to remove extra fluid from the body due to a variety of medical conditions.
  • Can give as a tablet by mouth (orally).

How is this medication given?

Give tablet(s) with or without food by mouth according to your veterinarian's precise instructions.

Your pet should have water available at all times while taking this medication.

If you are unsure of how to give Furosemide correctly, contact your veterinarian.

How does this medication work?

Furosemide is a diuretic. Diuretics stop the absorption of salt and fluid in the kidney tubules. This causes increased urine output so that excess fluid can be effectively removed from the body.

What results can I expect?

Furosemide is not a cure but it can help to improve your pets clinical symptoms and help him/her to feel better. Furosemide works quickly but only works for a few hours after each dose so it needs to be given at regular intervals in order to maintain its effects.

I have to cut these pills - and they just crush up

    By on

I have a brand new pill cuttter. When I have to cut the pill in half, they end up crushing. Don't know why this is happening, it's something that I don't prefer. Giving 2 stars but my cat needs these for his heart. I might try another pharmacy next time.

I never thought that I could get this medicine, so vitally needed, for my sweetie-pie Muffin. The price was wonderful, the wait was excellent considering that we are in a pandemic. From now on I will get all my medicines from Chewy. Thank you for all that you do, I know I could not do without you folks.

Don't buy these generic pills. Get them from your vet and be happy.

    By on

These pills are worthless. Small animals like cats require that the pills be cut into halves or quarters. Yo have about an 80% chance of getting ONE viable half when you split the pill. Having to cut these pill into quarters is nearly impossible. This 14 cent pill that should give me 4 doses actually costs closer to 28 cents or more. The pills the vet supplied split nicely into quarters with no waste. You'll be happier.

    Great generic

I disagree with the post saying you can't split the pills. You will need a pill cutter. But works fine.
