What’s the volume of the moss in the 0.33 lb bag? Alternatively, what are the weights of the 150 cubic inch and the 4 quart bags?
Answer by ChewyApr 15, 2021
A 1/3 pound of compressed moss expands to approximately 3 gallons. A 150 cubic inch bag weighs around .125 pounds and the 4 quart bags weighs around .35 pounds.

Is this sphagnum moss live or dried? Thanks
Answer by ChewyAug 30, 2021
This moss is not dried. Use sphagnum moss as natural decor in tropical tanks, a humidifier for any terrarium environment, or a substrate for carnivorous or live plants. This soft and leafy green moss holds moisture and naturally repels odors. Completing your tropical or wetland habitat with a thin layer of green sphagnum moss will help maintain the humidity of the tank as well as make it easier to clean up and maintain your terrarium. Sphagnum helps reptiles shed properly and live in an environment that supports their natural habits. Use in and pack around water dishes to allow easy access and lessen the risk of drowning. Replace moss once or twice a month depending on your pets' habits and terrarium size.

Is this ok for a garter snake?
Answer by ChewyAug 15, 2021

Great for pacman frog

I use this along with coconut bedding for my pacman frog and she loves it. My only complaint is the "crumbs" in the bottom of the bag sometimes fall in and I fear she'll consume them

Mossy Moss

It's...it's moss, like you get what you order haha. My bag had popped a bit, but this stuff isn't hard to wrangle. Used for my isopods to help keep humidity levels with winters approach. Does a good job and looks nice too.

Well, it's moss

Good packaging, resealable, pretty good amount for a thicker cover 10 gal.

So green!!

This moss is exactly as described, but it is so green- unnaturally green. I tried soaking it but color doesn’t bleed. I think it will be pretty mixed in with other things in a terrarium though.

Great for Rat Digbox

I add this to my boy's coco soil digbox when i change the soil (weekly). They love using it as bedding and it helps to keep the soil moist!

moss for salamander

Works really great and holds moisture really well but sometimes a little too well and must be switched every 2 weeks or mold will grow

Not the best for humidity.

I use a mix of several mosses in my gecko terrarium, for looks as well as maintaining humidity levels. Of all the mosses I use this is my least favorite and the one I won't be purchasing again. There are no problems with the packaging or moss itself (which is why I'm rating 5 stars even though I don't *love* it) it just doesn't hold moisture very well or for very long and is very stringy and not appealing, nor very useful compared to the other mosses. Reindeer moss is fabulous for retaining water and has a lovely soft feel to it, I put it in the hideouts; pillow moss is great for the majority of the tank floor with the soil substrate, it stays moist and looks nice, providing a soft floor for the geckos. This moss, however, is hard to keep moist and to "tame" making the enclosure look like a hot mess. 5 stars for the quality and if you like this type of moss, it's a good price. I personally dislike it.

Very good product that came very fast (literally overnight)

shipped and delivered overnight and it’s an overall really great product. It’s actual spahgnum moss (the stuff they sell in stores is dead spahgnum moss). Would highly recommend this product from chewy.com

Not what I was expecting

When I got the package, I was a bit surprised to see a rather flat package of moss. The label says 4 quarts by volume, which is a gallon. I guess it might be that much, if fluffed up. The product photo seems to show a fairly rounded/stuffed package, like a pillow, so it implies that there is more there than what you actually get. It's not a very expensive product, just over $3.00, so it's not a huge deal, but just be aware that you might not be getting what you expect, based on the product photo and description.
