FAQ

Are your products BPA Free?

Yes, our containers are made from food-grade, BPA-free (and BPS-free) plastic. Our containers are safe for both people and pet food!

Where are your products made?

We are committed to supporting our local economy. We proudly make our Vittles Vault pet food containers and GAMMA Seal Lids in the USA. We have two factories: one in California and one in Tennessee.

Can I put the container or lid in the dishwasher?

We do not recommend putting the Gamma Seal Lid in the dishwasher. Please wash this piece by hand. The containers themselves can be put in the dishwasher.

What do you mean by "Pest Proof?"

When we say pest, we mean insects such as ants (a very common problem). Rats can chew through metal if they have reason to think there is food to be had. We do not guarantee our product against mice, rats, raccoons, possums, squirrels, bears, etc. However, we do make it difficult for these pest to chew through the rounded angle corners. It's tough for them to get their mouths around these corners. We suggest that if you have a problem, place a piece of wood (13"X 13") over the top, or store the Vittles Vault upside down. Customers have also had success covering their container with a milk crate or putting a couple of drops of peppermint essential oil on the container to act as a natural repellent.

Can I store my Vittles Vault outside?

The Vittles Vault Outback Collection is ideal for outdoor storage.

Do I need to wash my Vittles Vault?

We recommend thoroughly washing and drying your Vittles Vault prior to use. It is also recommended to periodically wash and dry your container. This is because the oils from the pet food can absorb into the plastic over time and become rancid. A good rule of thumb is to wash and dry your container with each new bag of food.

My lid is too tight and I can't open it.

Try pressing on the center of the lid and then unscrewing.

Is my Vittles Vault recyclable?

While we hope you would never want to discard your Vittles Vault, you can indeed recycle it if you no longer need it.

What size is the free scoop included with the Vittles Vaults?

The scoop is just a smidge over 1 cup.

How tightly should I screw on my lid?

To close and seal your Vittles Vault, all you have to do is spin the lid. It will close to the ideal setting. Over-tightening and forcing the lid closed beyond this point can damage the protective seal.

    useful item

By mary on Oct 13, 2021

I looked at these in stores and did not buy them because of the smell. One day I found one on the clearance rack that had clearly been there for a long time. It had no more order. They are fine if you wear them out. I have no idea how long it takes to air them out. Even with airing it out I still leave the food inside of the bag, it sits upright nicely in the bucket style. It’s sturdy and pet proof

Does not hold anywhere close to 4lbs!

By TeNeal on Apr 30, 2021

This item does not hold four pounds of pet food. I have owned the vittles vault jr for nearly two months, and found that it only holds—at most—three and a quarter (3.25) pounds of pet food. Disappointed.

    true to 4lbs

By Emily on Sep 21, 2020

I read where this may hold 5lbs of dog food.... this is not true! I am using purina pro plan puppy 5lb bag and there is still quite a bit of food that does not fit in this container!

    Excellent for food storage

By PupMom on Aug 7, 2020

I have a 12 year old 60 pound pittie who eats several small meals a day as it's easier for his digestion. I bought these to hold a weeks worth of food for him so I'm not opening up the 24 pound bag of food five times a day, every day, so it stays fresher. These have a good tight seal and they look nice in the counter.

    Junior Food Storage

By Expectedbetter on Jul 4, 2020

LOVE this thing. It keeps the food FRESH and holds quite a bit! Indents on the outside for easy carrying and a scoop that pops onto the lid. I don’t use the scoop but still a nice option. This would be great for a weekend away or if you don’t want to keep opening up the bag of dog food multiple times a day. We fill this up with kibble and squeeze out the air from the dog food bag and stick the bag into a larger vittles vault container. It’s also very easy to clean. The only downfall is the sticker is almost impossible to get off, so we just left it on.

    DO NOT BUY THIS

By Meagan on Jun 30, 2020

The quality is similar to that of a cheap dollarstore plastic container. Has a horrible chemical-smell that refuses to wash out. It is not airtight, no matter how hard you try to screw the lid on. The plastic is cheap and leaves a bad smell to the food. If you are buying this to store a small amount of pet food such as parrot pellets, just go with a cheap glass gasket/clasp-style jar.

I really like this container. You can do so many things with it. It is great to use when traveling with your dog. Great to put dog biscuits in.

    Love this product

By DogMom on Jul 2, 2020

This holds 4 lbs of small kibble with a little room left over. Very sturdy and easy to handle. I like the measuring cup, makes it convenient for traveling.

Not like the other Vittles Vault containers

    By 3catsmom on Mar 20, 2020

I have the 15 and 30lb containers for our cat and dog food and absolutely love them. When one of our cats started to need a special weight control diet, I bought this container for his small bag of food. As others have mentioned though this one has a different lid that isn’t air tight at all. Obviously our cat could smell the food because he would not leave it alone. The tall skinny shape also made it easy for him to knock over. He’s never paid any attention to the other containers at all unless he hears us open them. We are using it, but it has to be kept up in a cabinet. I guess we probably go through the small bag fast enough that it stays relatively fresh, but I don’t feel like this container I have the 15 and 30lb containers for our cat and dog food and absolutely love them. Great quality but does not fit 6 lbs of food

    By Cockermomma4 on May 28, 2020

I ordered these to hold small amount of pet food for daily feedings. I will say it holds about 3-3 1/2 lbs of food. Won’t hold a whole small bag of food . They are nice to have and will continue to use
