About Grandma Lucy’s Artisan Dog Food

Freeze-Dried, Solution-Based Feeding

Solution-based feeding is the focus for all Grandma Lucy’s recipes. Each nutritious freeze-dried formula is made using only wholesome, minimally processed ingredients.

Ingredients with a Purpose

It takes high-quality ingredients to produce high-quality food. That’s why Grandma Lucy’s uses only the highest quality ingredients from trusted suppliers and farms. Artisan recipes are perfect for all breeds and life stages—feed them as a main meal, topper or as an addition to any homemade treat!

Family Values

Grandma Lucy’s is a company that cares. They care about pets, they care about nutrition, and they care about ingredients. They also care about giving, and they care about getting it all done right.

How Freeze-Drying Works

The freeze-drying process used by Grandma Lucy’s removes 92% of the water in the ingredients, leaving a food that is lightweight, compact, shelf-stable and preservative-free. Compared to other drying processes like dehydration or air drying, freeze-drying is better at retaining the characteristics of raw food. It preserves more flavor and keeps much of the food’s original texture after reconstitution.

Delicious and Highly Digestible

All-Natural and Grain-Free

Artisan recipes are minimally processed and made with whole muscle meats, fruits and vegetables.

Limited Ingredient Recipes

Ideal for picky eaters, sensitive stomachs, and those new to freeze-dried food, these limited ingredient recipes are ideal for dogs at every stage of life.

Quality You Can Trust

Artisan recipes never include by-products, meals, preservatives, added hormones, antibiotics, or feed-grade or animal-grade ingredients.

Muscle & Organ Meats

Only lightly braised, minimally processed whole muscle and organ meats are used, with no meat meals or by-products.

All Natural

Minimally processed ingredients with added vitamins and minerals make these all-natural recipes naturally nutritious.

Grain-Free

Palatable, digestible and perfect for all life stages, these recipes are made without any grain.

Made in the USA

Every Artisan recipe is made in small batches at Grandma Lucy’s Southern California facility.

About Grandma Lucy’s

Grandma Lucy’s began when founders Breann & Eric Shook started their quest for safe, healthy dog treats. Their 11-year old English Cocker Spaniel, Lucy, had developed food allergies that prevented her from eating most treats, and as they learned what was in pet food, they were surprised at the inferior ingredient quality. After consulting with vets and nutritionists, they started home cooking Lucy’s meals and treats, and what resulted was the basis for the healthy pet foods they make today.

The amount of phosphorus doesn't change when the water is added. It will still have the same percentage.

I’ve been using this product for several years as an add-in to my dog’s raw food. This latest bag has an awful smell both before and after I add water. It has never smelled anything like this. It also does not have a “Best By” date stamped on the bag as it usually does. Going to stop giving to my dog as I’m concerned it may be rancid.

dogs approve

I wanted to get away from dry kibble and feed my dogs some thing better , I have been researching dehydrated foods for quite a while, also thought about raw feeding ,which one of my dogs was fed raw when he was younger but he would gag at most raw meat . I seen this and thought I would give it a try ,since I make my own bone broth for my three dogs and also partly cook meat for them ,I used to add to their kibble every other day . But two of my dogs would eat around the kibble ,leave the kibble . I started this about one month ago ,I give my two German shorthairs about one cup of grandma Lucy's and add one to one and a half cups of hot water ,let it rehydrate then add the meat , grandma Lucy's is like runny mashed potatoes with bits of carrots and whole blue berries ,I have already in the pass have given them left over mashed potatoes so they thought they were getting left overs which is rare . I have two German shorthairs and a toy fox terrier mix and all eat this up ,I did follow the recommended cups per dog but the toy and one of the gsps would leave some so I use less and now none left ,I feed this to help get away from kibble at both feedings ,we feed merricks back country in the morning and grandma Lucy's with bone broth and meat in the evenings along with some home made yogurt ,fresh veggies and fresh fruit ,so far all three dogs are healthy, happy and have more energy and their poops are smaller ,the only complaint I have is how much potato this consists of but I guess it is what makes it ,I would like to see more fruit and veggies in the product ,I do add fresh ones but for busy days it would be awesome if this had more in it . But for as of now I could not be happier that I found a awesome food that my dogs like and let's me give them what protein I want since feeding kibble they would get the same protein for days and two of my dogs get bored fast .

great price!

I usually end up paying about $10 a pound for any dehydrated food I get for my dog. Chewy had this for under $18 and so I bought 3 of them. Great value.

Horrible Food!

We bought this as a topper for my dogs food and it made him very sick. He’s not one to usually get an upset stomach so we rushed him to the vet, thankfully it was just an upset stomach. But the vet looked at the ingredients in this food and said it was HORRIBLE! There isn’t even any meat listed in the ingredients and there’s garlic which is TOXIC to dogs! Save yourself a visit to the vet, don’t buy this food!

My dogs favorite food!

I’ve been feeding my pup this food for over a year. I just cook up a bunch of ground beef/turkey/chicken and store it in a container then heat some of it up and mix it in when it’s time to eat. It took me a while to figure out the proper meat, pre-mix, water ratio but he loves it!!! His fur is super soft and luscious every since I switched him- I get compliments all the time.

Grandma Lucy’s Artisan Pre Mix

We’ve tried numerous different dog foods for our German Shepherd puppy and nothing seemed to work. He could not digest so many different varieties. Our dog trainer recommended Grandma Lucy‘s artisan pre-mix so we tried it and for about three weeks now we have had a wonderfully normal German Shepherd. He is healthy, active and his coat is shiny !! We are planning to try some of the other products that they offer and we are so thankful to have found this great dog food.

Disappointed

I was excited to try this, but my dog won't eat it. And chewy won't respond to my requests to return it.

These really help

I stayed with a couple who had dementia-they kept forgetting NOT to feed my dog from the table. Now the dog WON'T eat dogfood. I mix this in with whatever meat we have and she loves it and gets her vitamins/vegetables. It mixes in easy and must taste good because she eats it/
