How many measured dry cups are there in the 8 lb bag.

Each cup makes approximately 1 pound of food so the 8 pound bag contains around 8 cups and will make 36 pounds after hydration.

First I want to say ,when we got our first German shorthair pointer over 25 yrs ago ,Grunt he had so many health, skin issues then he we got him tested .After three allergy tests we found out he was allergic to all grain if it came from a seed he was allergic to it and also poultry even chicken fat which was in 99percent of every food on the market even high end food ,we did find a food based on raw but was first expensive and second only brought on line threw the company ,then the company got over whelmed with orders they sold to Purina and the food changed and the allergies came with that change so we changed the food yet again ,we have always fed raw based food and even fed raw in between to all our dogs after Grunt's issues . Grunt lived to 13 yrs old and have since had/have three more Gsps since Grunt .,I wanted to feed completely raw but with the chemicals fed to meat animals and chemicals sprayed and the GMO fruit and veggies is crazy ,so I wanted a base to help in making sure my dogs aka furchildren are getting what nutrients they need ,I researched for days, weeks and found Grandma Lucy's ,to be honest was / is a little worried about the chic pea and potato base which makes up most of the food but I alway give my dogs fresh home grown veggies in season and I freeze for use out of season and the same with the fruits and I make home made yogurt weekly . So I got a small bag first and tried it since i did already feed them the potato based one and all three loved it ,i also make my own bone broth and when cooking off the meat bones i strain out the meat which is med raw cooked and put the meat separated in the freezer from the broth ,and time to time i have cooked potatoes and sweet potatoes so they were used the consistency. So far they are doing awesome and less stools and shiny coats /eyes more energy and over all health is awesome ,just wish there was more veggies and fruit then the peas and potato .

My dogs love this!

Both my dogs love this base mix. It mixes well and when combined with a protein source, makes a great meal.

Both my pups love it!!

I have a 11 year old Jack Russell and a 6 year old Staffy Chihuahua- both are very hearty eaters and love this stuff mixed with Stella and Chewys Raw Patties. Great for getting extra protein and fiber into their diets and I love that it is grain free. My dog Kyla suffers from seasonal allergies and having her on a grain free diet + raw has helped her tremendously! No more trips to the vet every 3 months for allergies shots. Their fur is nice and soft too! Highly recommended!

Great for supplement

I feed all my pets raw food and I do like to give them the occasional meal with fruits/veggies added, and this does help make it easier to do that. I don't believe in feeding dogs this with every meal, just the occasional one. And definitely not recommended for carnivore cats. Also nice to be able to recognize the ingredients:)

Great alternative to traditional food

After bringing home a rescue puppy with horrible intestinal parasites and the upset belly to go with it, I searched for alternatives for what I could feed her. Starting with plain rice, then poached chicken and rice, and then trying to wean to traditional high quality food. It was a no go! Then I heard about Grandma Lucy’s. First using the premix with poached chicken, and then branching out to the other varieties. I couldn’t be happier. The puppy loves it, as do my other two adult dogs. They literally dance about while I prepare their meals. In the end, I know what is in their meals, I control the amounts and can supplement if desired based on age and growth. I’m very pleased. And ordering from Chewy makes one less trip to the animal supply store for me!

Poodle Gravy!!! The solution to picky pets!

My Standard Poodle is extremely picky. He also has a very high metabolism and needs a higher daily calorie count than an average dog. Grandma Lucy's products cover both of these issues! We do not use the product as a stand-alone food but rather use it to make "gravy" to mix into high-quality kibble which results in a clean bowl! We rotate kibbles each month, providing a different protein every month to prevent food boredom and reduce the risk of allergy development. A 3lb bag of Grandma Lucy's lasts us about 6 weeks. We have tried many different proteins and every formula Grandma Lucy's offers except for the Macanna. Silas has loved them all! We just tried the pre-mix for the first time as it's both more economical and provides the opportunity for more variety. So far I have used ground turkey, ground pork and canned mackerel. I mix 1/2 C. of oat flour (whiz rolled oats in a food processor)into each LB of meat as both a slight thickener for the finished "gravy" (making the product go a little farther) and as a binder for the meat so that I can easily make individual portions with a 2oz scoop. I keep these in the freezer to be added to 1/4 C of dry mix and 3/4 C of hot water. The hot water thaws the meat in about 5 minutes and a quick whip with a fork blends everything together. I let it sit for another 2 minutes and then have the perfect consistency and amount to mix into 1 1/4 C of dry kibble. Each LB of meat yields 16 portions. At $20.89 for a 3 LB bag of Pre-Mix, $3.34 per LB of ground pork, $3.89 per LB of ground turkey and $1.44 per 15.5 oz can of mackeral - this yields 6 weeks of "gravy" for a total $29.56 with the variety he loves. Pre-mix is going to be the way to go for us from now on! Our next bag will be the Artisan Pre-Mix with Lamb, Beef&Liver and Salmon for his protein varieties.

Not for us

This says grain-free, but looks like nothing but. Just makes a mush when water added, even in small amount, and after adding a protein, my 7 just don't care for it at all. I donated both bags to a local rescue. No fault on Chewys part though!!!

Great for Dogs

Glad that I chose to purchase this brand! I bought the large bag (because I have 4 Chow Chows) and gave Grandma Lucy's a try. Within a couple of weeks, I was happy to see that 2 all 4 of my dogs' stomachs, which had been black or spotty, were turning back to pink! Now they all have nice pink stomachs and seem to be a lot calmer. I mix 5 cups of Grandma Lucy's with 5 1/2 cups of water, & then add a 2-pound tube of raw venison. This makes 2-3 days worth of food, providing 1 cup per dog per day.

Too much Garlic-

I love a plant based pre-mix-and all the other ingredients seem great-but the Garlic is just way too strong-None of my 5 dogs will eat any of this and I kept mixing in enticing ingredients that they love like Coconut oil to make it more appealing-No -they wont go near this-it is way too overpowering-the whole room smells like Garlic-I hate and am allergic to Garlic myself-I bought this because my dogs are used to eating vegan foods and plant based ingredients-and one of my dogs absolutely loves Garbanzo beans ---but I had to throw out countless bowls of prepared food mixed with expensive dry food etc...all for the garbage -I li
