Freeze-Dried, Grain-Free Food

Combines tasty tidbits of meat, potatoes, carrots, apples, blueberries and cranberries, and some recipes add bananas, pumpkin, and sweet potatoes.

These recipes start out with chicken, rabbit, goat, lamb or fish, plus wholesome chickpeas, a low-glycemic legume that's full of protein, folic acid and fiber.

Tasty chicken, turkey or fish is the main course, and quinoa is added as a gluten-free superfood that offers extra protein and amino acids.

This food helps increase your pet's nutrient intake with superfood ingredients like hemp hearts, coconut, kale and turmeric.

Freeze-Dried, Grain-Free Treats

Choose your dog's favorite protein (or sweet potatoes, if that's his thing) with these single-ingredient treats.

Made to match the complete food formulas with five of the same ingredients, so you can serve it as an appetizer.

Grandma's Special Tummy Remedy

Grandma's Special Tummy Remedy

Simple Remedy is just what the (doggie) doctor ordered for an upset stomach. It's the traditional recipe for nausea, vomiting and diarrhea that's easy to digest and gentle on the stomach. This formula is recommended by veterinarians as something you can feed your pup in place of his regular meal until he's back to normal. The recipe is simple—just boneless, skinless chicken breast meat and plain white rice. Add some water, and it's ready to serve!

About Grandma Lucy's

With a name like Grandma Lucy's, you'd expect a company that's family-owned and operated—one that you can trust. And that's exactly what you'll find. Since 1999, the Shook family has created pet foods of the same quality and made from the same healthy ingredients as their own food. Their main taste tester was Lucy, an 11-year-old Cocker Spaniel who had no problem turning down food she didn't like. • Shiny Bowls!!

    By on

Both of our girls absolutely love this product. They eagerly wait to eat after they see us add water to their Grand Ma Lucy's food and let it sit for 5 minutes. One of our girls is picky and the other has a sensitive tummy. Neither of them have had any issues as far as tummy upset and their bowls are always shiny when they have finished eating.

  • The smell is terrible

I spent a good deal of money on this product and when I opened the bag, the smell was very bad, when I added liquid, it became worse smelling the whole house with strong odor, my dog would not touch the food!

  • my dog loved it, I didn't

First off, I've seen many reviewers of Grandma Lucy's products mention a strong garlic smell, but to me it smells like Shake 'n Bake. Regardless of the smell, my dog loved it. But I don't know what I did wrong, because I couldn't get the larger pieces of chicken to rehydrate. I tried hotter water, I tried soaking them longer, but only the outer layer would soften. Inside they were hard as a rock, so I ended up throwing them out. And my dog suffered a lot of gas. (I suffered too!) He didn't seem to have any other digestive troubles, just the gas, but that has since gone away now that we've finished the 3lb bag and have switched to a different food.

  • Good ingredients

This food has good ingredients, however all 5 of my dogs refuse to eat it. I think the quinoa might have a very strong odor to it? They would smell it and back away.

I also use Artisan chicken, but use a small proportion mixed with the Valor. Potato is not a grain, but it is a starch. My dog has liver and kidney issues, and the low Phosphorus content is required for the kidneys. Grandma Lucy's has the lowest Phosphorus of raw Freeze dried. In my case, for the liver, I actually add some potato starch, as this starch is a resistant starch, so when not digested and moves to the intestine, the starch is food for the bacteria that produce the enzymes. Plus the protein is high quality, so I can avoid expensive hydrolyzed protein sources. Has it's own enzymes.

  • Smell different

My dog is not too sure of this food. It is a great quality but the odor takes some getting used to. He has really enjoyed other freeze dried foods but this one is eaten very slowly or not at all.

i switched to Valor from the Grandma Lucys chicken with potato. the quinoa in the Valor has a lot of nutritional qualities that the potato lacks. seems to have more large chicken chunks as well. the dogs love it and i am very satisfied. wasnt a thing wrong with the other product but this one offers more.
