Back in 1960 a dog fancier visited Grannick's Pharmacy and explained that her dog would become nervous before every show and start chewing and licking his coat. She asked if there was anything available to help stop him. No such product existed, but in the days when Irv Grannick learned his profession, pharmacists regularly prepared their own compounds and ointments. He tried different bitter flavorings until he came up with a formula that worked. The "Grannicks Bitter Apple" was then born, and ever since every day more veterinarians, groomers and pet lovers around the world discover the benefits of this product.

Okay so I bought this stuff to deter chewing from my new cots bought on this site, and also for my window seal. I have three boys under 2. (1.5-1-9months) their mouths will be the death of me or so I thought! I was scared at first because I shook this stuff up and I sprayed the cot. My Leo boy licked it off the cot! I was like omg no! This can't be he likes it! Well a few moments later he was making the WORST faces. He has yet to chew what I sprayed. Him and his brothers have been kept at bay with this stuff. My boy will even Rip up blankets this spray has gotten on the blankets and he hasn't been ripping them up. I think the trick is, I do spray fresh spray each time I leave them alone with Okay so I bought this stuff to deter chewing from my new cots bought on this site, and also for my window seal. I spray the cots 1-2x a day maybe I can cut down but it's only been a little over a week right now. It's worth the money to buy more spray if it saved some things like a window seal. Worth a shot for sure!… more

This stuff is awesome! My dog has chewed furniture, baseboards, pillows, couch cushions, patio furniture, garden hose, and the list goes on.....
I have sprayed this on literally everything in my house and now he keeps his teeth to himself.
It doesn't smell bad to me, it doesn't stain,I've used it on the couch, window blinds, baseboards, wood furniture, lamp cords, everything you can imagine a dog can try to get into his mouth.
My dog runs when I get it out, he can't stand the taste. First time he tried chewing on something I sprayed it on, he foamed at the mouth and gagged but he hasn't chewed since!
I would recommend this to anyone with a chewing dog or cat.
My family has been using for generations

I am a fourth generation dog enthusiast. My family has been using this stuff for years and it works great as an aid to training puppies. I've never had it stain anything and I've used it on all sorts of items, including fur and skin. Note, if you get it on your hands it can take multiple washing for it to come off and it does taste horrible. Usually once the puppy tastes it once or twice the smell alone is enough to deter further unwanted chewing/biting/licking.
A tasty treat?

Not only did my puppy chew right through this, he also managed to get the bottle while I wasn't looking and ended up chewing the top off and drinking it. Maybe he's weird (good possibility) or maybe this is actually just a tasty treat for dogs. Either way, it didn't serve its purpose.
Had high hopes

I've tried just about everything under the sun to keep my pup from her paws. She tends to love all the nasty tastes that are supposed to keep lickers away. The initially spray of this took her aback, but within seconds she was happily licking her paw again. No luck for me here.
Bitter apple spray

I had heard that this was the best thing to use to deter puppies chewing furniture, chairs or baskets. My puppy does not like the smell when I spray it. He continues to chew on one of my baskets. I have sprayed it on furniture and cabinets also. He does not seem interested in them but I do not think it is the result of the spray.
Good service and product

This is a lifesaver for me. I have a Labrador puppy who is extremely mouthy (hurts me a lot with his little baby teeth). I sprayed him once in the mouth (per his trainer, doesn't say do that on bottle). Now all I have to do is show him the bottle and he stops hurting me. Also a great price from Chewy.com
Effective but you need to reapply often

When my puppy was younger, he would always try to play with my shoes, chew the baseboards, bite his lease, etc. Once I sprayed the item with bitter apple spray, he'd sniff the item a few times and leave it alone. I think the spray eventually wore off, so I'd have to reapply every few days to keep him from chewing on something he wasn't supposed to.

This product is the only thing you will need to save your household belongings. Our seven week old puppy is now three months and she has only chewed two pairs of shoes, they were not sprayed. #safethehousehold
Worked at first..

I have a 10 month old Boxer that is a destructive chewer! This spray worked at first. However, now that I’m over half way through the bottle, she has began to chew the freshly sprayed items. Will be trying something for anxiety instead.
