Grannick's Bitter Apple Original Taste Deterrent Dog Spray, 16-oz

Back in 1960 a dog fancier visited Grannick's Pharmacy and explained that her dog would become nervous before every show and start chewing and licking his coat. She asked if there was anything available to help stop him. No such product existed, but in the days when Irv Grannick learned his profession, pharmacists regularly prepared their own compounds and ointments. He tried different bitter flavorings until he came up with a formula that worked. The "Grannicks Bitter Apple" was then born, and ever since every day more veterinarians, groomers and pet lovers around the world discover the benefits of this product.

Not as great as I hoped
By Amanda on Jan 22, 2021
My pup started snitching dish towels and floor mats so I hoped this may work as a deterrent. While she doesn't care for the taste, and recognizes when I've put it on something, it fades too quickly on fabric. She's also very determined and will push through if she wants something. It probably works better on non-porous items but you need way too much to make it work on cloth.

Hot Spot Help
By CynthiaF on Jan 22, 2021
Our Golden licks his knee to the point where he has had to have laser treatments to heal it. This Bitter Apple keeps him from licking the "hot spot" without any ill effects. As soon as he starts licking, I tell him to stop or I will have to spray him, and he stops. I do spray his knee before he goes to sleep for the night. This is well worth the cost.

Didn't work
By KimC on Jan 21, 2021
This did not work to get my puppy to stop chewing on things. He was constantly at the light sockets, which have child protective plastic in them. He'd pull them out. I sprayed them with this, and he still pulled them out. I finally had to brush hot sauce on them to get him to leave them alone.

Grannick’s Bitter Apple Spray
By FLNATIVE on Nov 29, 2020
This product works better than another we tried. Our experience is that it works best on metal. Puppies actually leave items alone. If spraying in their presence, they seem to like the taste. Does not work on shoe laces, which were ignored until we used it on the laces?. Okay on some other items, but we have not needed to use it that often, perhaps, because we keep puppies occupied and train them. Would buy again, if needed. Extremely happy with service with Chewy and loved the true customer service! Have already recommended Chewy to several people.

It really works
By Patty on Dec 15, 2020
My sweetie chewed my table when I left her alone. Was more worried about her than the table. I remembered using this with our dogs when I was younger, so decided to try it. The chewing stopped. (It's difficult to use on the iron gate since it sprays right through. I'll need to try the gel, or spray this on a rag first) Worth the money! Kept me from having to crate my dog every time I left the house.

Bitter spray for bunny
By Erica on Dec 13, 2020
I bought this as my rabbit was chewing a lot of my wood (baseboards and such) It works mildly but not very effective. I am sure for some rabbits it works but for me and my bunny, it did not do much. I will say, it deterred her some. Just not super-duper effective. I don't know if it is just my bunny being determined to chew or if it actually does not work. So for some this might work, for others, it might not.

Life saver!
By Nicki on Nov 19, 2020
Almost didn't purchase due to my vet stating that her dogs are more compelled to chew than they are deterred by this stuff, but ordered anyway due to overwhelmingly positive reviews. GLAD I PURCHASED! This is the only thing (other than a firm "no" which has a spotty success rate) that will keep my 9 wk old puppy from trying to chew his way out of his pen. If nothing is working for you, I urge you to give this product a shot!

Didn't work
By Rachael on Dec 29, 2020
For our last dog, we sprayed this on her leash and hands because she had a biting problem. She didn't like it at first, but her determination won out and she continued to bite and chew.

Works great for my pomsky!!
By Apollo on Oct 22, 2020
I bought this for my pomsky when he was fairly young. As soon as we stepped downstairs my socks, feet, ankles, blankets, and furniture would be under attack. He hated this taste and now that he is older we do not have to use this as much but it still works on him! I've tried other products and he would just ignore it and keep chewing, this kept him away for good.

Works great
By Huskymomma on Nov 8, 2020
We bought this to stop our 8 month old puppy from tugging on the leash and from mouthing people when they come in our home. A little squirt of this on our hands and a lot on the leash when she grabs it and it works so well!! It’s a great product!!
