Hi, my little dogs are old and missing teeth. Most dry food are in little bites which actually are hard and crunchy and they cant eat them. I tried the freeze dried food. They don't like it. Should I just feed them canned food only now?
Answer by • Jul 24, 2018
Certain canned food textures may be easier for senior dogs to manage. You can also soak dry kibble and freeze-dried food in water or broth to make them softer for your dogs.
Halo chicken freeze dried cat treats have sodium phosphate- how many mgs of salt is being used?
Answer by • Nov 15, 2017
Halo does not test for the sodium content as it is not meant to replace a meal. It is only to be given as a treat.
Are these cooked or raw?
Answer by • Sep 30, 2018
Freeze dried dog food and treats are actually made from cooked fresh foods with nearly all of the water content removed through a special process. The meat is usually taken straight from the source and placed inside a freeze drying machine. This dryer will drop the temperature of the food until frozen, then apply a small amount of heat while concurrently extracting moisture from the meat.
Is this chicken raised in the USA? Where is this food made
Answer by • Aug 06, 2021
Halo selects every ingredient they use based on its premium quality and nutritive value. Each ingredient comes with a certificate of analysis and country of origin. All Halo meat proteins are sourced from the US, Canada, or New Zealand. Because of their commitment to using non-GMO vegetables and fruits, they also source plant-based ingredients from Europe, where GMO crops are prohibited by law. Any ingredient sourced internationally comes from verified responsible suppliers. Halo diets are made in US manufacturing facilities.
It doesn’t smell good to me, doesn’t smell like chicken at all, kinda smells like plastic or chemical but my dogs ate it even the picky one, so I guess it’s ok…. It’s in small cubes, doesn’t really look like the picture from the bag. It’s pricey also.

old formula better
I use to love these treats. Had them of auto-ship. As mentioned by others, this new formula is not as good. First of all, they’re large and not easy to break apart. My dog is small and won’t eat the large pieces. Secondly, they’re not dry—don’t break apart easily. I use to break them apart and out then put the bits in her sniffle mat. These won’t break apart. Lastly, since they are not dry, they stay on your hands even after washing. Since it is raw meatI’m not

My kitties used to love this freeze dried chicken
They have changed the packaging and formulation of these. They are now cubes that resemble particle board, hard and dry. Half of my kitties won't touch these, especially my former Halo fiend. I have had these on autoship for ages, but no more. The dogs will still eat them, but they'll eat almost any treat.

changed formila
They used to be dry, which i didn't mind because they were easy to break apart for adding into my dogs foor, while also making the pieces more manageable to my cats.
They've changed the formula and the new treats are SO Oily :( When i crush them with my fingers, i cant even wash all the oil off. While being oily, they're also really hard.. and my cat wont eat them anymore.
I used to buy a bag a week, but now i've cancelled my autoship :(

Changed formula
New recipe along with new packaging. product does not crumble into a powder as it did previously, it shreds now. Cats still like it, but it is less effective as a food topper (it's easier for them to pick it off now and leave the food below) and the shreds seem to get stuck in their throats.

Pluses and minuses
My cats LOVE these but I find that some of the pieces are too hard for them to eat. Pretty sure a dog would not have any problem. I have been dampening the pieces before giving them as treats and that works well, but some bits are just too hard even after soaking. I am going to try a different brand to see if the same thing happens.

Too much dust
My cat loves this chicken! She will do most anything for a piece. Therefore, I am obligated to buy. However, product has way too much chicken dust and tiny pieces which my cat refuses to eat. Sometimes, half the container is dust or unmanageable, tiny pieces. Chewy rep told me they often receive it with dust already, but by the time it reaches me after banging around in shipping, the chicken pieces are greatly reduced. My cat will not eat it sprinkled on other food as some have suggested. Cost is very high to have so much discarded. I have learned not to order it with other things in the box which are heavy, because Chewy does not offer additional protective materials and the bigger items just crash into the chicken container during shipping. My first big mistakes a few years ago was ordering jugs of litter or bag of kibble at same time. What a disaster!

Liked the large size too!
my cats really liked the small jar i got on Chewy’s deals, so i decided to try the large size. Usually the minute i buy the large, they change their mind. Thankfully, this one they like! Has a fair amount of powder (as they all do), but they clean the bowl every time. Looks like inventory may be tricky, so it may have to be rotated with Life Essentials.

A Halo for Halo!
My cat has always loved this brand! Freeze-dried, minus a lot of the questionable additives in a lot of brands, and crunchy, the way she likes it. This is the treat I give her every day as a reward for "being gentle" with the house plants and with my keyboard when we are playing Cat TV!
Giving her one of these treats is a delightful part of our morning routine.
