I contacted Halo and got reply. They changed the Liv a little treat process but stated it shouldn't change product! Ok so as we, furr baby parents, well know, YES it did change product. Now they take raw chicken and then freeze dry it. Before... they cooked chicken then freeze dried it! I expressed my thoughts and concerns to them about the change. But their response was that "it should not change the pet experience". So... please keep posting your reviews. Sadly think they are just cutting costs like so many other companies. But we are our pets voices!
Our cats loved Halo’s freeze-dried chicken. It was their favorite treat and we’ve had it on auto-ship for years. They will NOT eat the new formula version. Initially, we thought this was supposed to be just a packaging change (bag instead of plastic jar). However, the product has totally changed. The color, texture and smell are all different. Furthermore, the protein level has dropped while the fat content seems to have increased. Halo, why did you ruin an excellent product? We had to throw out four bags of this product since our cats refuse to eat it. I’ve removed it from our auto-ship and the search begins for a new healthy treat that our cats can enjoy.
We have been buying Halo Chicken Liv-A-Littles for nearly 15 years. We jokingly referred to it as "kitty crack" because the cats would go crazy for these treats. The treats were white pieces of freeze dried chicken breast and shipped in plastic jars with a screw top lid. Now they are brown cubes of freeze dried "raw chicken treats" that ship in pouches. The cat does not like this new formula as much as the previous formula. (I've seen her spit them out). We have had many pouches arrive as dust. When you ship these pouches in a box with 25 lb boxes of kitty litter, they don't survive transit. The price has gone up and the quality and packaging have gone way down. I hope Halo will come to their senses and go back to the previous formula & packaging.
One of my cats still eat the chicken. Neither like the salmon. They changed the recipe on the chicken and it is not all white a fluffy, instead all greasy. Very disappointed. Will probably never purchase again.
I am so tired of the super premium companies deciding to join the crappy conglomerates, buy cheaper products, and try to sell them for the same price as their excellent products that they stop making. Used these for years in the plastic containers, no idea what this garbage is they are shipping now, but NOPE from me. Manufacturers, if you think you can fool pet owners, you are WRONG.
This product is bad, and it is sold almost everywhere under the name of a Halo Liv-A-Littles protein Treats Whole Chicken BREAST. Why the sellers show a can of real Hallo Liv-a-littles treats while sending these garbage treats made of whole chicken (giblets? skin?), NOT of chicken breast? I have a whole bunch of them bought from different sellers under a real product name and they will go to the garbage since none of my 4 indoors cats and 2 feral cats on my deck wants to eat them. It looks like a big scam, people complain, but nobody takes any measures.
On several occasions there have been blue bits of plastic mixed in with the food. These used to be quality soft freeze dried pieces. Since the packaging change, the pieces are hard, sharp and very dry. Chewy has not offered a refund after I reached out, so hoping this gets some more traction. Cannot recommend; the closest thing we found to the original quality are Whole Life Pet’s “Just One” ingredient freeze dried treats.
The old liv-a-littles smelled like chicken. These smell like fish. The Crude Protein dropped from 80% to 75% and Crude Fat went up from 3% to 9%. Moisture content also increased. They cheaped-out on the ingredients but still want people to pay the premium price. We are moving on. Will try the Cat-Man-Doo Life Essentials. They look like the old Halo recipe and the nutritional analysis matches the old recipe.
I don’t know why they messed and changed a good thing…..but these new halo treats are awful and sooooooo hard. Bring back the old recipe and container!
not one of my 5 cats will eat this now that it's changed. It was the treat of choice, and I had it on auto ship for three jars a month. I was excited to see the packaging change, but they also changed the contents. It's hard, shatters when you try to make the pieces smaller, and apparently unpalatable. It's not often all 5 of my cats agree on anything, but they are agreed on this. Bring back the old chicken.
