Pets with sensitive stomachs may need to transition a little more slowly to avoid any digestive upset. If you introduce the new food too quickly and your cat or dog experiences some digestive upset, just back up to the previous transition amount where your pet wasn’t having any trouble and feed that amount for a few more days before continuing with the transition. Once your pet is eating all Halo food, if you switch between Halo recipes, consider a 2- or 3-day transition to minimize stomach upset.
No. While many vets recommend dry food to "keep teeth clean and healthy" it is a fact that many pets do not chew their food well enough to get any abrasive cleaning action from dry food. Whether you feed dry or canned food the single most important thing for dental health is tooth brushing.
Because it is! AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) defines "natural" pet food as having ingredients from ONLY plant, animal or mined sources. These foods cannot be highly processed or contain chemically synthetic ingredients, such as artificial flavors, preservatives or colorings.
The holistic viewpoint that Halo has stems from the belief that health is achieved by focusing on the whole body through natural living. Halo believes that the quality of ingredients a pet eats is the foundation of overall well-being but that elimination of harsh chemicals from food, treats and the environment is also critical to achieve optimal health.
Halo uses eggs and peas as an additional source of highly digestible protein to support protein levels in all formulations. Halo does not use meat meal as a concentrated source of dried protein and uses only whole real meat ingredients. It is more difficult to achieve very high protein levels when using whole real meat instead of a meat meal. We feel the eggs and peas are healthier alternatives to meat meal.
Halo defines corn and white rice as "fillers". These are carbohydrates that may raise blood sugar levels rapidly and create hormonal signals that may have negative long term effects on metabolism and weight gain. Corn and rice based diets may also contribute to chronic symptoms of maldigestion, such as gas, bloating, and diarrhea. Halo makes healthier carbohydrate choices by using whole grains such as barley and oats and vegetables like sweet potatoes. These carbohydrates are nutrient-dense because they supply energy as well as high levels of fiber for digestive health and high levels of vitamins and minerals for overall health.
When he eats the chicken & turkey he vomits, and feels sick. (A court case in Merced, Ca in 2023 showed Foster Farms chickens sold to the public have covid!)
Next vet visit to be my best friends last would be his last. Keto free Halo saved my pre-diabetic cat. Day one on tummy works and halo his gut issues were resolving
I wanted this to work so bad for my 18 year old kitty, but after two days, she had one of her digestive problems and had to take medicine to stop it. Wish I could have purchased only a few cans instead of 12. Live and Learn. Chewy is still the greatest!
This seems like it would be a healthy cat food, but my 3 & 9 yr old cats would not eat it. It can't do them any good if I cannot get it in them. I even tried taking out the veggies I could see and making them taste it, but did not help.
WARNING!!! If you're looking for stew, this is not it! Stew is supposed to be runny and this is a solid pate'. I was very disappointed and my cats wouldn't touch it.
Advertised as stew. may be, but is just pate cat food in a can, no difference. And way too expensive.
My cats have been eating this without any problem, but today they sniffed it and turned their head away. I looked closer and saw various blackish grayish particles that seem like maybe veggies that went bad or some kind of black mold. What is that?? The can/lid seal itself was fine before opening, so it was definitely the food within that went bad or something. Never choosing this again.
It said chicken "stew" it's a mushy pate. My cats love chicken! This? Not so much.
My cats are fussy and don't like most cat food but this one is a favorite and they eat it. Makes me feel good as I know it is good for them.
I think Halo is far better nutritionally than fancy feast which was my former cat food. My two cats are fairly picky but they will eat this flavor happily.
