Pets with sensitive stomachs may need to transition a little more slowly to avoid any digestive upset. If you introduce the new food too quickly and your cat or dog experiences some digestive upset, just back up to the previous transition amount where your pet wasn’t having any trouble and feed that amount for a few more days before continuing with the transition. Once your pet is eating all Halo food, if you switch between Halo recipes, consider a 2- or 3-day transition to minimize stomach upset.
FAQ
Is canned food bad for my pet’s teeth?
No. While many vets recommend dry food to "keep teeth clean and healthy" it is a fact that many pets do not chew their food well enough to get any abrasive cleaning action from dry food. Whether you feed dry or canned food the single most important thing for dental health is tooth brushing.
Why does Halo refer to its products as natural?
Because it is! AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) defines "natural" pet food as having ingredients from ONLY plant, animal or mined sources. These foods cannot be highly processed or contain chemically synthetic ingredients, such as artificial flavors, preservatives or colorings.
Why does Halo refer to its products as holistic?
The holistic viewpoint that Halo has stems from the belief that health is achieved by focusing on the whole body through natural living. Halo believes that the quality of ingredients a pet eats is the foundation of overall well-being but that elimination of harsh chemicals from food, treats and the environment is also critical to achieve optimal health.
Why does Halo use so much egg and peas in their formulations?
Halo uses eggs and peas as an additional source of highly digestible protein to support protein levels in all formulations. Halo does not use meat meal as a concentrated source of dried protein and uses only whole real meat ingredients. It is more difficult to achieve very high protein levels when using whole real meat instead of a meat meal. We feel the eggs and peas are healthier alternatives to meat meal.
Why does Halo avoid rice and corn in their foods?
Halo defines corn and white rice as "fillers". These are carbohydrates that may raise blood sugar levels rapidly and create hormonal signals that may have negative long term effects on metabolism and weight gain. Corn and rice based diets may also contribute to chronic symptoms of maldigestion, such as gas, bloating, and diarrhea. Halo makes healthier carbohydrate choices by using whole grains such as barley and oats and vegetables like sweet potatoes. These carbohydrates are nutrient-dense because they supply energy as well as high levels of fiber for digestive health and high levels of vitamins and minerals for overall health.

High Quality and Easy to Feed
I bought this food for an extra-small foster dog recovering from an injury, because this food was rated very highly for nutrition on Dog Food Advisor. The food was easy to roll into balls to hide pills in, and the dog liked it. The can and lid are easy to rinse out for recycling.

Halo Food Review
This is really good food. I have an elderly dog who has a bad stomach and can't tolerate many foods. She is doing very well on this food. So thankful to have found it!

May be too rich for some
My chihuahua has been eating Halo for years now, I most always buy & give her Spots Stew or Beef Stew, have given her other flavors but every now and then Ive forgotten what flavor/ingredients of Halo Canned Food she either turns her nose up at or if she does eat .. she gets sick. This is the Only flavor that immediately she rushes outside and starts eating grass. (Ive purchased several cases of the Chicken & Salmon over the years from lack of remembering) Im not sure if its too rich or if she is not accustomed to eating one or both of the ingredients? I'll give 5 stars to every other flavor they sell but before you buy a whole case try 1 can first of this one.

Scrumpscious!
Our Poppy loves Halo Chicken and Salmon recipe canned food. I also love feeding it to him! It smells SCRUMPSCIOUS! We chose this food for our lttle rescue dog because we had in the past used Halo's supplement oil for dogs, and it worked wonders! When I discovered Halo canned food (in the right size cans) I decided to give it a try. Wonderful outcome. We also buy the beef stew and duck and turkey canned food varieties. He enjoys them as well. I recommend this food to your little dog.

Hey Mikey! She likes it!
I was looking for a better food (not grocery store offerings) for my 2 year old toy poodle. This food appears highly rated and contains reasonable ingredients. She gobbles it down!

it's the best
I have a little poodle that was rescued from a puppy mill. She was accustomed to being fed slop and is VERY fussy. Halo is the first dog food I've tried that she dove into immediately.
