Transition Instructions

Many pets require up to 7 - 10 days to adjust to a new food because their intestinal tracts contain unique bacteria and enzymes that need to adapt to the proper digestion of a new food. Follow these guidelines for changing your pet’s current dry or canned food to Halo dry or canned food:

Days 1 - 3: 75% old food, 25% Halo Days 4 - 5: 50% old food, 50% Halo Days 6 - 7: 25% old food, 75% Halo Days 8+: 100% Halo

If you have a pet with a sensitive stomach, transition them even more slowly (over 2 to 3 weeks) to avoid digestive upset.

If your dog experiences digestive upset during the transition (poor appetite, vomiting, diarrhea or soft stool, etc.), return to the new food amount that was not causing problems and keep them there for a few more days before continuing with the diet change. Once your pet is eating all Halo if you change between the flavors, consider a 2 or 3 day transition to minimize stomach upset.

FAQ

Is canned food bad for my pet’s teeth?

No. While many vets recommend dry food to "keep teeth clean and healthy" it is a fact that many pets do not chew their food well enough to get any abrasive cleaning action from dry food. Whether you feed dry or canned food the single most important thing for dental health is tooth brushing.

Why does Halo refer to its products as natural?

Because it is! AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) defines "natural" pet food as having ingredients from ONLY plant, animal or mined sources. These foods cannot be highly processed or contain chemically synthetic ingredients, such as artificial flavors, preservatives or colorings.

Why does Halo refer to its products as holistic?

The holistic viewpoint that Halo has stems from the belief that health is achieved by focusing on the whole body through natural living. Halo believes that the quality of ingredients a pet eats is the foundation of overall well-being but that elimination of harsh chemicals from food, treats and the environment is also critical to achieve optimal health.

Why does Halo use so much egg and peas in their formulations?

Halo uses eggs and peas as an additional source of highly digestible protein to support protein levels in all formulations. Halo does not use meat meal as a concentrated source of dried protein and uses only whole real meat ingredients. It is more difficult to achieve very high protein levels when using whole real meat instead of a meat meal. We feel the eggs and peas are healthier alternatives to meat meal.

Why does Halo avoid rice and corn in their foods?

Halo defines corn and white rice as "fillers". These are carbohydrates that may raise blood sugar levels rapidly and create hormonal signals that may have negative long term effects on metabolism and weight gain. Corn and rice based diets may also contribute to chronic symptoms of maldigestion, such as gas, bloating, and diarrhea. Halo makes healthier carbohydrate choices by using whole grains such as barley and oats and vegetables like sweet potatoes. These carbohydrates are nutrient-dense because they supply energy as well as high levels of fiber for digestive health and high levels of vitamins and minerals for overall health.

About Halo Wet Dog Food

America's Best Loved Holistic Brand
Holistic. Whole. Humane.

Holistic. Whole. Humane.

Halo is committed to providing no less than the best holistic recipes to satisfy your dog’s carnivorous cravings. Their wet dog food combines pure, natural ingredients like whole meat, poultry and fish plus non-GMO fruits and vegetables for delicious, more digestible meals. Following a whole meat philosophy, Halo never uses animal by-products or meat meals—just the real, whole proteins your dog needs to thrive.

Superior Digestibility

Halo believes that whole meat equals a whole lot more digestibility. As obligate carnivores, dogs need meat, not just parts of animals that you wouldn’t consider to be meat. When your pet gets whole proteins instead of rendered meats like chicken meal or fish meal, they’re getting optimum nutrition that’s easier for their body to digest. And that means they can get the full benefits of each nutrient-rich ingredient.

What's in Your Dog's Bowl?

With Halo, you won’t see a meat meal hiding anywhere in the ingredients, and there’s no corn, wheat, wheat gluten, rice or artificial colors, preservatives or flavors. Here’s what you will find:

Holistic Whole Meat: Salmon, whitefish, chicken or turkey that's slow-cooked provides a more digestible source of protein with up to 16 times less ash than rendered meat.

Non-GMO Produce: Fruits and vegetables from farms that refuse to use genetically modified seeds that rely heavily on chemical fertilizers and herbicides to produce crops.

  • We love Halo

We love Halo as I was using Orijin and found out they have not been using real meat, but the meal. Our girls, (2 black kitties)hair has been looking better and I weaned them off of chicken livers as they are not organic and have not been looking healthy in the last few months. I trust that Halo will continue to be a high standard Dog and Cat food.

So glad I found this! My little dog will only eat this brand and Ive tried so many. I started making her food but that is not always convenient. I care about what goes into my body and care what goes into hers. I want her around for as long as possible.

  • Must be tasty

I got this for my Doberman. She was a bit underweight and not thrilled with dry food. I put it on top of her bowl and she now mows down all of her food at once.

  • Patte not stew

    By on

My dog doesn't hate it but the description is stew and it's actually a patte which I was trying to avoid this time around. Guess I'll try again.

  • Adding this to my pups dry Fromm food - he goes nuts!

    By on

I recently started adding some Halo wet dog food to my 1 year olds dry food and he licks the bowl clean. I picked Halo after a lot of research about the best quality wet food. It is a little pricey but I do half a can with each meal to drag it out.

Every other day I mix this in with their dry food. Just for a little something different and they LOVE it. Smells like wet food but you can see ingredients in there like peas and carrot, etc. Which is good.

My picky pup loves this stuff. Never tasted it myself but by the looks of his enthusiasm when I put it in his bowl, it must taste very good!

  • DOG LOVES THIS

My mini-poodle had become bored/disinterested in her usual flavor of HALO canned food, chicken, and seemed to prefer the Wellness Petite Lamb Casserole dinners that I gave her every now and then, so I tried the HALO Lamb. She perked up and enjoys it! I have fed her HALO brand as the mainstay because it is a quality food that agrees with her system best and, so far, she's been healthy.
