Pets with sensitive stomachs may need to transition a little more slowly to avoid any digestive upset. If you introduce the new food too quickly and your cat or dog experiences some digestive upset, just back up to the previous transition amount where your pet wasn’t having any trouble and feed that amount for a few more days before continuing with the transition. Once your pet is eating all Halo food, if you switch between Halo recipes, consider a 2- or 3-day transition to minimize stomach upset.
Is canned food bad for my pet’s teeth?
No. While many vets recommend dry food to "keep teeth clean and healthy" it is a fact that many pets do not chew their food well enough to get any abrasive cleaning action from dry food. Whether you feed dry or canned food the single most important thing for dental health is tooth brushing.
Why does Halo refer to its products as natural?
Because it is! AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) defines "natural" pet food as having ingredients from ONLY plant, animal or mined sources. These foods cannot be highly processed or contain chemically synthetic ingredients, such as artificial flavors, preservatives or colorings.
Why does Halo refer to its products as holistic?
The holistic viewpoint that Halo has stems from the belief that health is achieved by focusing on the whole body through natural living. Halo believes that the quality of ingredients a pet eats is the foundation of overall well-being but that elimination of harsh chemicals from food, treats and the environment is also critical to achieve optimal health.
Why does Halo use so much egg and peas in their formulations?
Halo uses eggs and peas as an additional source of highly digestible protein to support protein levels in all formulations. Halo does not use meat meal as a concentrated source of dried protein and uses only whole real meat ingredients. It is more difficult to achieve very high protein levels when using whole real meat instead of a meat meal. We feel the eggs and peas are healthier alternatives to meat meal.
Why does Halo avoid rice and corn in their foods?
Halo defines corn and white rice as "fillers". These are carbohydrates that may raise blood sugar levels rapidly and create hormonal signals that may have negative long term effects on metabolism and weight gain. Corn and rice based diets may also contribute to chronic symptoms of maldigestion, such as gas, bloating, and diarrhea. Halo makes healthier carbohydrate choices by using whole grains such as barley and oats and vegetables like sweet potatoes. These carbohydrates are nutrient-dense because they supply energy as well as high levels of fiber for digestive health and high levels of vitamins and minerals for overall health.

Holistic. Whole. Humane.
Halo is committed to providing no less than the best holistic recipes to satisfy your dog’s carnivorous cravings. Their wet dog food combines pure, natural ingredients like whole meat, poultry and fish plus non-GMO fruits and vegetables for delicious, more digestible meals. Following a whole meat philosophy, Halo never uses animal by-products or meat meals—just the real, whole proteins your dog needs to thrive.
Super Digestibility
Halo believes that whole meat equals a whole lot more digestibility. Dogs need meat, not just parts of animals that you wouldn’t consider to be meat. When your pet gets whole proteins instead of rendered meats like chicken meal or fish meal, they’re getting optimum nutrition that’s easier for their body to digest. And that means they can get the full benefits of each nutrient-rich ingredient.
What's in Your Dog's Bowl?
With Halo, you won’t see a "meat meal" hiding anywhere in the ingredients, and there’s no corn, wheat, wheat gluten, rice or artificial colors, preservatives or flavors. Here’s what you will find:
Holistic Whole Protein: Salmon, whitefish, chicken or turkey that's slow-cooked provides a more digestible source of protein with up to 16 times less ash than rendered meat.
Non-GMO Produce: Fruits and vegetables from farms that refuse to use genetically modified seeds that rely heavily on chemical fertilizers and herbicides to produce crops.

Great for Recovering Pups (if you can stand the smell)
By DeeJay on Apr 5, 2021
My poor guy had to undergo dental surgery and lost a few teeth. I wanted to replace his high end kibble with a high end soft food while he was healing. This stuff was a hit! He loved the flavor and I could tell there were whole ingredients when I opened the can. 10/10. I bought chicken, beef, and lamb for them to try and I'll say... While every flavor was a big hit with my pup, the lamb had a pungent aroma that hit me like a freight truck. Maybe pick the other flavors if you have a weak stomach. I definitely was put off my own food once or twice after opening this can.

dog didn’t like this halo flavor
By Zane on Jan 2, 2021
Okay so I have been buying halo for about a year now. My Yorkie is so picky with food that I wanted to try something different for him. I fed it to him with honest kitchen pour over he only liked the pour over off and left the food. He didn’t like this one at all. He has a sensitive tummy so I thought this one would be good but no it was horrible.

My dog seems to like it
By Halo on Jan 29, 2021
He’s a bit picky but he tends to like lamb meal so we tried this one and he eats it all up! I like the convenient small cans.

Great for sensitive GI German Shepherd
By GermanShep on Aug 29, 2020
My fussy girl has GI issues that I cannot begin to describe. She enjoys this food which I enhance with a handful of Dr Marty’s freeze dried and a bit of hot water. I recommend.

Healthier Dachshund
By Lace on Jul 2, 2020
We were feeding our dog an expensive top 10 dog food. She stopped eating it. She would nibble some late that day if hungry. She hid from us and acted unusual. Doing research, I found it was made in Asia. I did more research and found Halo. She gobbles it up. She is playful and back to a happy adult dog.

Every can looks like it's gone bad
By TahtiMama on Nov 8, 2019
Every can I open looks like it's old. Strange white pieces, mold? Bottom I crap off it looks black. I thought this was a stew style instead it's like cat food pate. i will like be switching back to her Vet Rx brand of wet food. it was messy but looked like real human stew and smelt amazing! If it wasn't so late id return the remaining cans for refund.

I trust Halo
By Scout on Sep 20, 2019
I feed both my 10-year-old dog and my 10-month-old puppy Halo dog food. The only problem is the older dog wants the puppy’s food, and the puppy wants the older dog’s food! So now I mix them together and everybody’s happy.

Bad Oil replacement
By sreeves on Sep 14, 2019
5 star for the original formula. What a shame, the new Lamb formula replaced Flax oil and Salmon oil with cheap sunflower oil. That is a game changer. So disappointed. Hope to buy up the old formula than find something else.
