Pets with sensitive stomachs may need to transition a little more slowly to avoid any digestive upset. If you introduce the new food too quickly and your cat or dog experiences some digestive upset, just back up to the previous transition amount where your pet wasn’t having any trouble and feed that amount for a few more days before continuing with the transition. Once your pet is eating all Halo food, if you switch between Halo recipes, consider a 2- or 3-day transition to minimize stomach upset.
Is canned food bad for my pet’s teeth?
No. While many vets recommend dry food to "keep teeth clean and healthy" it is a fact that many pets do not chew their food well enough to get any abrasive cleaning action from dry food. Whether you feed dry or canned food the single most important thing for dental health is tooth brushing.
Why does Halo refer to its products as natural?
Because it is! AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) defines "natural" pet food as having ingredients from ONLY plant, animal or mined sources. These foods cannot be highly processed or contain chemically synthetic ingredients, such as artificial flavors, preservatives or colorings.
Why does Halo refer to its products as holistic?
The holistic viewpoint that Halo has stems from the belief that health is achieved by focusing on the whole body through natural living. Halo believes that the quality of ingredients a pet eats is the foundation of overall well-being but that elimination of harsh chemicals from food, treats and the environment is also critical to achieve optimal health.
Why does Halo use so much egg and peas in their formulations?
Halo uses eggs and peas as an additional source of highly digestible protein to support protein levels in all formulations. Halo does not use meat meal as a concentrated source of dried protein and uses only whole real meat ingredients. It is more difficult to achieve very high protein levels when using whole real meat instead of a meat meal. We feel the eggs and peas are healthier alternatives to meat meal.
Why does Halo avoid rice and corn in their foods?
Halo defines corn and white rice as "fillers". These are carbohydrates that may raise blood sugar levels rapidly and create hormonal signals that may have negative long term effects on metabolism and weight gain. Corn and rice based diets may also contribute to chronic symptoms of maldigestion, such as gas, bloating, and diarrhea. Halo makes healthier carbohydrate choices by using whole grains such as barley and oats and vegetables like sweet potatoes. These carbohydrates are nutrient-dense because they supply energy as well as high levels of fiber for digestive health and high levels of vitamins and minerals for overall health.

I’m shocked my kitten liked this
By Chewygirl on Jan 25, 2021
He loves it. Little guy doesn’t care much for chicken or turkey which is odd so I took a chance on lamb. It’s not a traditional stew though; there’s no thick gravy and huge chunks in it. It’s more like a not well blended pate with a few small chunks of peas and lamb; so if you’re looking for stew not sure you’ll be happy.

Halo Lamb Stew canned cat food
By Barbara on Jan 6, 2021
My 2 cats seem to enjoy this canned cat food pretty well. It is much more dense, without any gravy at all, so I do add a bit of water to it, which they seem to enjoy. I like that it's a good quality food for them. It's a bit pricey, but can usually get free shipping, so it kind of balances out.

We were looking for a new flavor to add to his eating options. Convenient size and it is now his favorite meal !

Picky kitties strike again...
By Allison on Dec 2, 2019
...by which, I mean "hunger strike"! All three of my furry monsters ate their first servings of this food happily, but after that they refused to touch it. (Because cat.) I have an IBD kitty and am heavily involved in cat rescue, so I know all the tricks to get a picky cat to eat. I mixed this food with warm water and other foods; heated it in the microwave; sprinkled it with all manner of toppers; and NOTHING worked. My cats made it very clear that they would rather starve than eat this food. :-(

Buyer beware
By MrKitty on Feb 22, 2020
I still have a case (minus 2) left because neither my house cat or EVEN THE STRAY cat I feed wouldn't so much as put their lips to this stuff.

Not a stew
By GusGus on Jan 24, 2020
Halo Lamb Stew is a pate. It was improperly categorized under the food texture filter as stew. My cat won't eat pate, so just a heads up to those who also have to avoid buying food in that form.

Maybe it is just our cats...
By 2SiameseCats on Dec 8, 2019
but they won't touch this food. We are disappointed, especially given the per can price.

My picky kitties don't like
By PuppyCup on Sep 17, 2019
My picky kitties don't seem to like this flavor. It is on the thick side, so I've even tried adding warm water to thin out this pate, but they still don't seem to care for it. I tried!

Not for sensitive stomachs
By Wilson on Aug 30, 2019
My year old cat has a slightly sensitive stomach. While she did like this food and ate it, every can I tried out made her vomit (4 total).

My cats are very fussy with what they will eat. They love the halo
