Pets with sensitive stomachs may need to transition a little more slowly to avoid any digestive upset. If you introduce the new food too quickly and your cat or dog experiences some digestive upset, just back up to the previous transition amount where your pet wasn’t having any trouble and feed that amount for a few more days before continuing with the transition. Once your pet is eating all Halo food, if you switch between Halo recipes, consider a 2- or 3-day transition to minimize stomach upset.
Is canned food bad for my pet’s teeth?
No. While many vets recommend dry food to "keep teeth clean and healthy" it is a fact that many pets do not chew their food well enough to get any abrasive cleaning action from dry food. Whether you feed dry or canned food the single most important thing for dental health is tooth brushing.
Why does Halo refer to its products as natural?
Because it is! AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) defines "natural" pet food as having ingredients from ONLY plant, animal or mined sources. These foods cannot be highly processed or contain chemically synthetic ingredients, such as artificial flavors, preservatives or colorings.
Why does Halo refer to its products as holistic?
The holistic viewpoint that Halo has stems from the belief that health is achieved by focusing on the whole body through natural living. Halo believes that the quality of ingredients a pet eats is the foundation of overall well-being but that elimination of harsh chemicals from food, treats and the environment is also critical to achieve optimal health.
Why does Halo use so much egg and peas in their formulations?
Halo uses eggs and peas as an additional source of highly digestible protein to support protein levels in all formulations. Halo does not use meat meal as a concentrated source of dried protein and uses only whole real meat ingredients. It is more difficult to achieve very high protein levels when using whole real meat instead of a meat meal. We feel the eggs and peas are healthier alternatives to meat meal.
Why does Halo avoid rice and corn in their foods?
Halo defines corn and white rice as "fillers". These are carbohydrates that may raise blood sugar levels rapidly and create hormonal signals that may have negative long term effects on metabolism and weight gain. Corn and rice based diets may also contribute to chronic symptoms of maldigestion, such as gas, bloating, and diarrhea. Halo makes healthier carbohydrate choices by using whole grains such as barley and oats and vegetables like sweet potatoes. These carbohydrates are nutrient-dense because they supply energy as well as high levels of fiber for digestive health and high levels of vitamins and minerals for overall health.

Licked the bowl clean
By sWheatScoop on Oct 10, 2020
As a human rating a particular cat food, all I really have to say is that she LOVES anything from Halo. Although I would have to say the consistency of this particular stew is less firm than others, she didn't seem to mind. Dug in and ate every bit, licking the bowl clean. Chewy is a great delivery service and I hope they always carry Halo Pet Food, as I will not buy any other brand. It is best in sourcing, ingredients, and price.

Humanely raised proteins!
By Sarah96 on Jun 9, 2020
I choose to start buying Halo because I am a vegetarian who doesn't love feeding my cats meat but knows it's essential for their health. I did some research into ethical pet food brands and found that Halo was the most accessable brand that totes certified humanely raised proteins. They do not source proteins from factory farms so the animals are not given unnecessary antibiotics or growth hormones. It is worth the higher price tag for the ethical treatment of animals. While this food is called a stew, Halo has funky standards for the consistency of their food. This is most similar to a softer pate or a mouse. Their pate food is much firmer than most pate foods. I add a little bit of extra water and mix it up with the food to prevent chronic dehydration in my cats. I prefer the "stews" just because they are easier to smash and mix with water. My cats have happily eaten every variety of Halo wet food I have given them, but they are not at all picky. They have never turned down any food I've offered them! … more

Muffin Likes Turkey & Duck
By Chizuko on Feb 9, 2020
We can't give you a review but Muffin can. Muffin tells us that she likes Halo Turkey & Duck. Sometimes she also likes Halo Whitefish. Muffin is very particular about her food. Sometimes she likes our fish, halibut and salmon from the grocery market. She is choosy about her food and Chewy has the variety of food that she desires.

Misleading name
By Kiki on Jan 25, 2020
I have a kitten who loves shredded and chunked poultry but not so much pate. Since this product is called “stew” I bought this thinking it would be chunky but it’s the exact consistency of pate. My other cat likes pate so I can still use it but the name is seriously misleading.

Whole Peas????
By Buffett on Dec 10, 2019
My cat likes this food but hates the whole PEAS and pieces of beans that are mixed in. I have to go through the food and pick all of it out before I can serve it to my cat. I called the company and they apologized saying she would report it to quality control. It is supposed to all be ground up!!!! This is my third order of the Stew Mix and it has ALL contained whole peas!!!

My cat loves it
By janie333 on Jul 7, 2019 Top 250 Contributor
Our calico cat was recently diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and her appetite has not been good. I went to the local pet store and bought several different kinds of canned food. The Halo Spot's Stew was a real hit with her and she wolfs it down. After finding out how much she enjoys it, I ordered a case of the Spot's Stew turkey, chicken and salmon for her from Chewy's. She continues to eat it voraciously. I love the fact that the ingredients are quality and that it actually smells great when you open the can.....like human food. In addition to the quality ingredients, it is a very moist food so it helps with her hydration.
