About Halo Dry Dog Food

America's Best Loved Holistic Brand
Holistic. Whole. Humane.

Holistic. Whole. Humane.

When pet parents want to give their pets a holistic food that's made with pure, natural, whole ingredients, they choose Halo. Their recipes use responsibly sourced whole meats and non-GMO vegetables, and never any meat meals, animal by-products or added growth hormones. It's exactly what nature intended—highly digestible ingredients that are slow-cooked in small batches to create dog food with less ash, more bioavailable nutrients and delicious flavor.

Proven Superior Digestibility

Halo believes that whole meat equals a whole lot more digestibility. As obligate carnivores, dogs need meat, not just parts of animals that you wouldn't consider to be meat. When your pet gets whole proteins instead of rendered meats like chicken meal or fish meal, they're getting optimum nutrition that's easier for their body to digest. And that means they can get the full benefits of each nutrient-rich ingredient.

What's in Your Dog's Bowl?

With Halo, you won't see a meat meal hiding anywhere in the ingredients, and there's no corn, wheat, wheat gluten, rice or artificial colors, preservatives or flavors. Here's what you will find:

Holistic Whole Meat: Salmon, chicken, lamb, venison, turkey or beef that's slow-cooked provides a more digestible source of protein with up to 16 times less ash than rendered meat.

Originative Protein: Humanely sourced meats like cage-free poultry and wild-caught fish from sustainable fisheries—all raised naturally without antibiotics.

Non-GMO Produce: Fruits and vegetables from farms that refuse to use genetically modified seeds that rely heavily on chemical fertilizers and herbicides to produce crops.

The Proof Is in the Poop

The Proof Is in the Poop

Because each recipe is made with whole meat, it's easier for your dog to digest. With Halo, more of the nutrients stay in and go to use inside your dog's body, so less is likely to come out as waste. In a digestibility test performed by an independent US laboratory, Halo's kibble came out at the top of the rankings.

DreamCoat for a Shiny Coat

The difference Halo makes isn't just on the inside—it shows through in the coat, too. Their exclusive DreamCoat blend is added to dry food formulas to help keep your dog's skin smooth and coat shiny. This combination of botanicals and other ingredients provides balanced essential fatty acids for ongoing skin and coat support.

DreamCoat for a Shiny Coat

Halo says NO to:

  • Meat meal (rendered meat)
  • Animal by-products
  • Added growth hormones
  • Corn, wheat, wheat gluten and rice
  • Artificial colors, preservatives and flavors
  • Compromises and shortcuts

Halo says YES to:

  • Whole meat that's responsibly sourced
  • Highly digestible whole proteins
  • Animals raised as nature intended
  • Fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins and minerals
  • Holistic, natural ingredients
  • Donating to shelters
  • Less ash and more bioavailable nutrition

About Halo

It's their overall mission to change the way companion animals are fed and farm animals are raised—for the better. This is the fundamental difference that sets them apart as a premium pet food brand.

  • kibble size is very small

    By on

I love that Halo makes a high quality vegan kibble. However I was surprised at how small each pc was. It seems like it's made for little dogs. My shep/husky mix loves the canned vegan food that Halo makes. I just add to her kibble with 1-2Tbsp as a topper. I may stick to the vegan Natural Balance dry as pcs are larger and it's not as pricey as Halo. However I will continue to buy the Halo vegan canned food.

  • A Healthy Alternative

My pit-mix isn't picky and will eat anything, even lettuce. I feed him a hybrid diet: cooked meals in the morning and all-raw in the evening. I keep a variety of choices on hand so that he never eats the same thing twice. He's middle-age and I wanted to reduce the animal protein in his diet. I got Halo Vegan Recipe to rotate his meals. This kibble doesn't smell savory like his other foods, and I was afraid he would reject it; however, he went for it. Being a vegetarian, I'll admit that I tried a piece; I don't like it but my dog does and that's all that matters. Bought 3 bags at a great price.

  • Best Vegan dog food!

    By on

My senior dog does great on this food. I love that it's low glycemic and easy for him to digest. His arthritis symptoms have lessened since I have taken animal products out of his diet and started him on this food. He is so excited about this food when feeding time comes around. Highly recommend this food and I'm sure my dog Manny does too.

  • Good..for now

    By on

Switched my dog from Vdog to this due to what I believe is a rice allergy. His itchiness has definitely been reduced upon feeding this food, but his poops are much bigger and stink a bit compared to when he was eating Vdog. Not sure what the difference is, but since he's less itchy and likes eating this food more (doesn't hesitate like he has in the past with other foods), we'll continue using it.

  • She's a vegan too!

My rescue minipoodle Pyper loves these kibbles now. I tried VDog small kibbles just to see the difference, but they're the size of rabbit food where I became concerned of the tiny kibbles lodging in her throat and it's too expensive, as well. So I came back to Halo, and I'm glad I did, for I can buy it here, with her other products, with free s&h over a certain amount.

  • Dog Will Not Eat

    By on

I bought this for my dog who is experiencing skin itching. He picks each piece out and piles them next to his bowl. I have tried coating it and mixing with thigs he does like, but he won't eat it. The quality of the food ingredients seem good, but my dog won't touch it. The pieces have a small round and flat shape, which is unique and good for dogs of all sizes.

  • Blue loves it

    By on

Blue has an auto immune issue that he cannot properly digest animal protein. When I recently took him back into my care I noticed the food he was eating was vegetarian but did not have any vegetables in it (also the food was full of bugs from being left open) so the transition was a good time for a change. Did my research then took the ingredient list to the vet and although she said both were very good a couple of ingredients in Halo made it the first choice. Blue loves it, poo is perfect which it wasn't before and in only a few weeks there is a marked improvement in his skin and coat. My personal disclaimer: Dogs are carnivorous animals and should not be on vegetarian diets other than Blue has an auto immune issue that he cannot properly digest animal protein.
