Feeding Instructions

Adult: Feed 3/4 - 1 oz per pound of body weight per day split into two servings.

Transition Instructions
  • Days 1 - 3: 75% non Halo food, 25% Halo

  • Days 4 - 5: 50% non Halo food, 50% Halo

  • Days 6 - 7: 25% non Halo food, 75% Halo

  • Days 8+: 100% Halo

Pets with sensitive stomachs may need to transition a little more slowly to avoid any digestive upset. If you introduce the new food too quickly and your cat or dog experiences some digestive upset, just back up to the previous transition amount where your pet wasn’t having any trouble and feed that amount for a few more days before continuing with the transition. Once your pet is eating all Halo food, if you switch between Halo recipes, consider a 2- or 3-day transition to minimize stomach upset.

FAQ

Is canned food bad for my pet’s teeth?

No. While many vets recommend dry food to "keep teeth clean and healthy" it is a fact that many pets do not chew their food well enough to get any abrasive cleaning action from dry food. Whether you feed dry or canned food the single most important thing for dental health is tooth brushing.

Why does Halo refer to its products as natural?

Because it is! AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) defines "natural" pet food as having ingredients from ONLY plant, animal or mined sources. These foods cannot be highly processed or contain chemically synthetic ingredients, such as artificial flavors, preservatives or colorings.

Why does Halo refer to its products as holistic?

The holistic viewpoint that Halo has stems from the belief that health is achieved by focusing on the whole body through natural living. Halo believes that the quality of ingredients a pet eats is the foundation of overall well-being but that elimination of harsh chemicals from food, treats and the environment is also critical to achieve optimal health.

Why does Halo use so much egg and peas in their formulations?

Halo uses eggs and peas as an additional source of highly digestible protein to support protein levels in all formulations. Halo does not use meat meal as a concentrated source of dried protein and uses only whole real meat ingredients. It is more difficult to achieve very high protein levels when using whole real meat instead of a meat meal. We feel the eggs and peas are healthier alternatives to meat meal.

Why does Halo avoid rice and corn in their foods?

Halo defines corn and white rice as "fillers". These are carbohydrates that may raise blood sugar levels rapidly and create hormonal signals that may have negative long term effects on metabolism and weight gain. Corn and rice based diets may also contribute to chronic symptoms of maldigestion, such as gas, bloating, and diarrhea. Halo makes healthier carbohydrate choices by using whole grains such as barley and oats and vegetables like sweet potatoes. These carbohydrates are nutrient-dense because they supply energy as well as high levels of fiber for digestive health and high levels of vitamins and minerals for overall health.

About Halo Wet Cat Food

Holistic. Whole. Humane.

Holistic. Whole. Humane.

Halo is committed to providing no less than the best holistic recipes to satisfy your cat’s carnivorous cravings. Their wet cat food combines pure, natural ingredients like whole meat, poultry and fish plus non-GMO fruits and vegetables for delicious, more digestible meals. Following a whole meat philosophy, Halo never uses animal by-products or meat meals—just the real, whole proteins your cat needs to thrive.

Super Digestibility

Halo believes that whole meat equals a whole lot more digestibility. As obligate carnivores, cats need meat, not just parts of animals that you wouldn’t consider to be meat. When your pet gets whole proteins instead of rendered meats like chicken meal or fish meal, they’re getting optimum nutrition that’s easier for their body to digest. And that means they can get the full benefits of each nutrient-rich ingredient.

What's in Your Cat's Bowl?

With Halo, you won’t see a "meat meal" hiding anywhere in the ingredients, and there’s no corn, wheat, wheat gluten, rice or artificial colors, preservatives or flavors. Here’s what you will find:

Holistic Whole Protein: Salmon, whitefish, chicken or turkey that's slow-cooked provides a more digestible source of protein with up to 16 times less ash than rendered meat.

Non-GMO Produce: Fruits and vegetables from farms that refuse to use genetically modified seeds that rely heavily on chemical fertilizers and herbicides to produce crops.

    My cats don't like it

By Hedy on May 24, 2021

I realized all my cats are not very healthy (too skinny) so I decided to change some better cat food for them. Unfortunately they don't like it at all. I also give them the other different brands, they are ok, but not this brand.

Halo Has Changed This Product Formula!

By Callahan on Apr 2, 2021

I am a very fussy cat and extremely picky about my wet food. A year ago, my mom found this great Halo Whitefish and I’ve thrived on it, but now the food is different. It’s now reddish in color (instead of whitish), stinks and attracts small bugs. So sad when premium priced pet food companies try to pull this off. Hope Mom returns to Canadian pet food.

    Whitefish pate

By Cindy on Apr 12, 2021

Kitties liked it a lot. Fast delivery. We are all happy campers.Great experience all around. Will be a repeat customer. So much easier than carting all those cans home for our 9 formerly feral furbabies. We are well pleased with this company.

    Good stuff

By Pups on Mar 21, 2021

My kitty is so finicky I was afraid to get it, but she loves it. Great ingredients and a decent price if you feed dry too. Pricey if you only feed wet but worth it. They need a variety pak, I did not see one.

    Excellent food!

By Jacqui on Jan 25, 2021

It took a long time for my elderly cat to switch to other foods that meet her nutritional needs but not this food. She gobbles it up and has even gained weight despite being a light eater her most of her life. I feel good feeding it to her knowing it is balanced and better ingredients then any other brand of its caliber that falls within my budget.

    Halo Whitefish canned cat food

By Roger on Nov 16, 2020

I’ve been feeding my cats this food for over a year, and it became one of their favorites. Last delivery of 2 cases is terrible. Food is so watery that it’s more like soup. Would’ve like to return what’s left......about a case and a 1/2.

New Formulation is loaded with water

By Dawn on Oct 8, 2020

I've been feeding my cats this brand of food for well over a year now. Recently, they have changed their formulation and it's loaded with water. It used to be a nice firm pate now it's a sloppy runny mess. Water is cheap...did they pass along the savings? NOPE. My cats are going through twice as much food now. I will no longer be purchasing this food because the value is no longer there.

    This Product Has Changed Drastically

By BobMarvin on Sep 28, 2020

My cat loved this food in its original dense pate-like version. The new version, received in our latest shipment, has been changed for the worse. It is thin and watery and my cat refuses to eat it. I can't imagine why the manufacturer chose to ruin a previously excellent cat food.
