A Miracle!
This Halti Lead was a miracle find for me… I rescued my boy Solomon David, aka; Solly 3yrs ago. He had been tied out to a tree the first 5yrs of his life, aged early as a result, so he had never been trained. As most dog lovers know, Black & Tan Coonhounds have a powerful scent, 2nd only to the bloodhound, so when they catch a scent all bets are off… they can’t refocus until they get to it. I’m 5’ tall and weigh a 100lbs, 10lbs less than Solly (who only weighed 60lbs when I rescued him) so I looked like a cartoon character flailing behind him when he wanted to get to a scent! I tried everything, and was about to give up, which would have been awful in my opinion for Solly not be walked. Then I found this lead and WAAALAA!! No more pulling!! I was in shock! And people will actually say, “Boy he sure does walk well on a leash!” Lol, they have no clue! He is the sweetest most well-behaved love on the planet and listens to everything I say! (Also sleeps on a queen size memory gel foam cooling mattress) And now he is the best Walker too thanks to this lead!
Cheap
Applied to my female choc lab and within a minute the she ran off as the harness ripped. Not worth it. After inspection the material is very thin and not going to hold an animal that is willing to put in the fight and energy to get out.
Great collar/walker
This my second halti collar. I love it. My Bean is a beast. He a giant bull of a pup with a strong will and a strong pull. This collar has made leash walking much easier.
Life-saver
Although there are no fast fix miracle cures to keep your dog from pulling on a leash, this training head collar really helped. My seven month old 70 pound retriever was so strong and would walk nicely on a leash inside but when I would try to transition him to walking with a loose leash outside there were way too many distractions and I felt like I had no control over him with a traditional collar or a harness. The Halti fits like a horse bridle and although he doesn’t love wearing it he now walks nicely by my side and our training sessions are much more positive for both of us.
Great for walks in public
Size 2 fits my smaller Australian cattle dog perfectly. She had to get used to it touching her face but now is the perfect walking buddy. She doesn’t pull and rarely reacts to outside stimuli on walks. Plus she still has plenty of space to open her mouth for drinking or panting.
it broke within the first month
The plastic piece on the muzzle strap snapped very easily with little pressure. It should be metal.
The optifit halti is better.
This halti doesn't relax how it should. The dog pulls and gets corrected and this stays tight on their mouth. I have to loosen it up constantly. Super annoying. The optifit has a different design so it doesn't chich down the same.
Well made, but with a catch
Noseband is nice and safe with the padding and wideness for her snout, however her tongue went blue from her having a panic attack and the noseband closing around her muzzle making her bite her tongue while it was out, it was very bad and im working out tailoring it to fix that but it should really just not do that, if a dog needs a muzzle then that should be bought seperately, not put on young or anxious animals just trying to get back to their momma on a walk with the family.
Fit on snout to loose
The strap around neck fit good because it has an adjustable strap. The part that goes on her snout is a little big & not adjustable. She can paw it off of her snout. I was hoping this would fit better because it really eliminates her pulling & the product is very well made
Strap frayed
Took a great class with my dog to learn how to use this head collar. He still rubs his head on anyone he can reach. Needs more padding all around. Piece through bottom ring has frayed to point of breakage. I need another one, but am hesitant.
