The Hamilton Prong Training Slip Collar is a quick and effective training tool for owners of new dogs or those with behavioral problems. When placed behind the ears and just below the jaw, a prong collar can help teach your pup not to lunge or pull on the leash. Hamilton takes pride in creating quality products, and the Prong Training Slip Collar uses hardware that’s been tested for strength and safety. The linked design allows you to remove or attach additional prongs as necessary for the right fit. This collar comes with “live ring” and “dead ring” features for proper training. Always start by clipping the leash onto both rings at once for more slack, which is called the “dead ring.” For dogs that don’t respond well, try connecting the leash to just one ring, or the “live ring.”

We have two fox terrier puppies about 7 months old. We have been making do with just cloth collars for walking since they were 3 months. One was making himself out to be an all star puller and the other needed constant reminders.
I did our 1st walk with these leads and holy smokes! A bit of a rough start with having to do a couple harsher corrections and then a few snug reminders. The most peaceful walk in a looong time. 1 person can walk both with absolute ease.
Fitting wise, I purchased the small link size. I had to add two links for our larger pup and will likely need to remove a link for the smaller pup.
No longer worried

I am no longer fearful that I won’t be able to gain control if another dog comes near because I can control my Rottweiler Sadie. She doesn’t do well with other dogs regardless if they do and although I carry a foghorn to prevent another dog attacking my lower back was paying the price for her getting into an aggressive position ready for it. The collar works well and stays on if you know how to use it properly. The lengths can be removed at any spot and when put back into place securely cannot just disconnect. If you don’t put the lengths properly all the way in then I am sure it could release. That is user error not the collar.

Absolutely amazing product it had truly changed my life, as before it was annoying and a hassle to take my dog out but now with this caller he walks Perfectly by my side and always listen to come out. Even my husband has joined me on our walks. Absolutely amazing so thankful. FYI my dog is an 80 lb pitbul and this collar has worked wonderfully.

Knowing there is a lot of controversy surrounding this type of training collar, let me just first say that our use was guided by a very reputable trainer and we used it on a dog that barely needed correction (her only issue was lunging at passing cars while walking).
As for the actual collar, it's a beast--really big, really heavy. I would have much preferred the German brand which was out of stock. For the same length there is much less heft.

My pet had a real problem with pulling if we had her on a leash during a hike. We've done training and tried all the tricks, however when we tried this prong collar the pulling stopped immediately! Now we don't even have to use the "live line" for her.

I was worried about trying this, because a lot of people are really negative about it and treat it like a torture device. I’m glad I gave this a shot. He is an escape artist and is really reactive around dogs, and getting control of him has always been a struggle. When a trainer recommended trying a prong collar, I wasn’t sure, but I decided to try. Eli’s behavior has been amazing after only two weeks! He doesn’t mind having it put on either. It is very difficult for me to get on and off, but I won’t count that against this, because it reassures me that it’s strong and he won’t be able to break it.

I ordered one of these prong collars for my five month old puppy that pulls a lot he's 41 lb so I guess I will buy extra links and hopefully that will work but it does seem cheaply made so I hope everything goes well when I use it I've looked at some in the stores and they seem better made but this one was cheaper.

My pup gets excited when he sees smaller animals or dogs outside which makes it hard to control his 80 lb self when he tries to take off. I originally bought the plastic training collar and it helped a little but his coat is too thick around his neck to make enough of a difference so I finally bought this one. It works like a charm, I don't have to pull at all to get his attention and he even gets excited when I put it on him. High quality metal, very shiny and kind of heavy. Great purchase!

Purchased this for almost ½ what the instructor at our dog obedience class was selling hers for! When she saw it, she made comment on the good quality, prongs rounded off, ease of use etc.
not my 1st choice

after lots of attemps at other collars and harnesses this is the only thing that controls this dog of mine. ive spent hundreds of dollars on harnesses, slip collars haltis and easy walkers to which none have worked. But my dog trainer measured him and fitted him perfectly with this collar. And chewy helped me to order exactly what i needed with the extra prongs as he grows. best 24.00 ive ever spent. I wouldnt reccommend this collar unless fitted by a trainer as it can cause major damage if its to tight. if used properly the collar does what its supposed to do.
