Thrown my money away, they changed this product! Doesn’t work for me anymore!

    By on

I’ve bought 6 packages/boxes of this in the past year or so, and kept feeling like there were issues- but also found various ways to justify them otherwise, continuing to use it longer/purchase more....because I had also used this product before it changed (they added soothing aloe) for YEARS, & thought it was great. My 75+ pound dogs that used to be outside full-time, out in the country....were now biting and scratching like crazy as INSIDE dogs, in a city apartment- that go out twice a day to do their business/take a walk -all of 5-10 minutes of that time being on grass/dirt areas vs. sidewalks. I thought 1 month that they’d gotten rained on too soon after applying it, another month- maybe I’ve bought 6 packages/boxes of this in the past year or so, and kept feeling like there were issues- but also found various ways to justify them otherwise, continuing to use it longer/purchase more....because I had also used this product before it changed (they added soothing aloe) for YEARS, & thought it was great. My 75+ pound dogs that used to be outside full-time, out in the country....were now biting and scratching like crazy as INSIDE dogs, in a city apartment- that go out twice a day to do their business/take a walk -all of 5-10 minutes of that time being on grass/dirt areas vs. sidewalks. I thought 1 month that they’d gotten rained on too soon after applying it, another month- maybe I needed to wait 3 days after their bath vs. only 2- to apply it....or oh, we didn’t have a cold enough winter in 2017, so maybe the fleas are just worse this spring/summer 2018. Perhaps since I just had them both shaved down for summer, there’s not enough hair to keep it in place for a day or two while it absorbs into their skin? Maybe my older dog is instead having an allergic reaction to his arthritis medication (but how would that affect the other dog) -maybe he has seasonal allergies...or maybe this other month- that I had my teenager apply it, he didn’t apply it correctly/get it all the way down to the skin- through the hair, etc., etc. Then, I happen to look through my “Chewy” email folder, where I’d taken screenshots of my orders, comparing those to the boxes that I’d received- & they didn’t match up! As in, I was choosing online/ordering the original product (no aloe) that I’d always used, but receiving the new “improved” (according to Hartz) product that now contains aloe. I’m someone who also keeps the boxes for quite sometime afterwards, in case of pet illness/reaction/product recalls by serial #/manufactured date, etc., so I had boxes from before purchasing from Chewy as well. I’d even contacted my veterinarian to ask if I could apply it more often, since they’re larger dogs and it’s not as powerful as K-9 Advantix, II etc. -so a few months during the summer, I’d applied it about every 3.5 weeks/almost a week early. My opinion, is that the new aloe formula that is supposed to sooth, is actually not sticking/staying on my dogs...based on the amount of oily product I find on (have to clean off of) my furniture and walls where my dogs lay next to- for days after it’s been applied every single month. So in addition to the price being raised on this product through Chewy’s website by $2-$3 each (they’ve also now since updated the picture to show the “aloe” version), it no longer works FOR ME/IN MY OPINION- as it did for almost a decade with my current dogs and my previous dog -that I’d had for 17 years. … more

Works best on a small breed dog

    By on

Out of many other brands and price ranges. These couldn't be the best as some have said. The small breed weight range flea and. Tick drops work fine I'm sure for most but, on my long hair chihuahua it attracted the fleas badly. The medium breed worked a little better for her but, didn't totally do the job it was designed to do. The Large Breed Hartz Ultra Pro Gaurd 61 + works the best! Only once, about 2 yrs ago I found 1 live flea on my small dog, nothing else. Haven't found any on her since. Love it when chewy has them on sale then I take advantage and get two more for the huskies. :)

I've tried lots of Hartz products, and they are always low quality or don't work. You get what you pay for.
