I hadn't ordered birdseed from Chewy before, but was already placing an order and added this to my cart. I am SOOO glad I did, and now I will buy more Harvest seeds! As soon as I started using this in my bird feeders and suet cakes, I started getting so many birds it was CREEPY outside. The cats and dogs love to watch them, and suet cakes especially go fast! I make my own suet cakes by melting 1 c lard and 1 c chunky peanut butter in a large saucepan, then add that to a huge bowl with 1 c flour, 1/2 c sugar, 2 c corn meal, 1 1/2 c quaker oats and then 1/2 to 1 1/2 c of this birdseed. Pour into a large flat casserole like where you make brownies, then refrigerate until solid. Then I cut it into squares to fit suet feeders and put them in freezer bags to freeze for later. When I use this in suet cakes, the cakes are gone in HOURS. They love it! Much different from the ones without this birdseed mix. I will keep coming back for this!
I left these bags outside unopened- completely forgetting they were out there I put my dogs outside for awhile. They tore into the bags, spreading the seeds all over our back porch, looking for doggo treats I guess. I didn’t bother to sweep up the seeds. Needless to say, our backyard is now THE place to be for birds of all types and sizes. Word has spread among the tiny bird community and I’ve never- in all my years of living here- have seen SO many teeny tiny birds coming to enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s constant. They sing their little bird songs. They seem happy. I also ordered the other type of bird seed from the same company/manufacturer and the dogs tore them both open so yeah I came on here to reorder both because I don’t know which one was the favorite among the birds.
