Has Health Extension been affected by any pet food recalls?

No, our formulas have never had a single recall.

What is the difference between “chicken” meal and “chicken by-product” meal?

Chicken meal is a high quality concentrated protein source that contains muscle meat. By law it may not contain heads, feet or intestines. Chicken by-product meal contains a variety of chicken “parts” including heads, feet and intestines.

Why do you use garlic in certain formulas?

We add a trace of garlic to our canned dog food to increase palatability. While it is a member of the onion family, garlic does not contain a meaningful amount of disulfide and will not cause a dog to become ill.

Where are Health Extension foods made?

All Health Extension products are proudly made in the U.S.A.

What is the shelf life of Health Extension?

Health Extension dry foods have an expiration of 1 year from date of manufacture.

    Way too many carrots

By Lewc on Jul 5, 2021

I'm sure carrots are a better inexpensive filler than corn meal, but they really went a bit overboard with this recipe. My cats only eat about half of their normal amount, and they leave all the carrots! Also, most of the cans are seriously dented.

ingredients seem healthy but cats didn't like

    By Mariaopp on Dec 9, 2020 top1000Contributor

This wasn't a hit with my current crew of 7. One of them ate a tiny bit when I first put it down, but walked away. I even tried sprinkling their favorite temptation treats on it but not luck.

Ingredient list is wrong, but cat likes it.

    By Ashley0129 on Feb 19, 2016

So far, it seems my 15 month old cat really likes the food. Certain foods make his bowel movements worse than others, so I'm trying to eliminate certain ingredients to find the culprit. When I got this food, like I said, he loves it, but the website left out the guar gum and carregean, which are the two ingredients I did not want. I guess I'll see how he reacts, but disappointed by this.

Good mix of proteins, but online ingredient list does not match what is printed on can

By vampyrichamster on Sep 4, 2015

I got this relatively high priced food for my cats on the basis of the ingredient list: good mix of proteins, minimal carbs and most important of all, no guar gum or carrageenan. When I opened a can for the first time this morning, the ingredient list printed on its label had all the ingredients listed here and the manufacturer's website, but also guar gum and carrageenan. I thought this was a pretty big oversight, given that both ingredients have currently have their controversies for cat health, and pet owners might be looking specifically to avoid them.

A win win, when you find a healthy cat food, that your cat actually eats and enjoys. This product meets all my checks.

    Fantastic food!

By PatsCats on May 11, 2015

My 14 year old cat wasn't really eating a lot of food, we were recommended this food by a store owner, and he loves it, and eats it like crazy! It's a great price, too! Grain free is usually expensive, but this stuff is great!
