Heartgard is a heartworm preventative that kills feline heartworms and helps to control and treat hookworms. Given monthly, it comes in a chewable that you can feed to your pal as a tasty, beef-flavored treat. If your cat has a tendency to swallow her food or treats whole, you can break each tablet into small pieces for easier feeding.

My cat family has received this product for about 40 years, although they almost never go outside - this is Florida and mosquitos do get inside the house now and then. Btter safe than sorry and we have never had a positive heartworm test. Different cats react to this chew in different ways - some enjoy it as a treat, some have to have it hidden in food - a couple have had to have it cut into pieces and given forcibly like a pill. The best way I have found so ar that has worked UNIVERSALLY is to shred the chew into tiny pieces and mix it with a Squeeze-up treat. They clean it up that way.
Unfortunately, I do not know how effective this is as my cat wouldn’t eat it. I believe the texture is too hard for cats who prefer wet food. I tried breaking it up and it was even hard to tear apart. Unfortunately she refused to eat it, even though she eats dry food and other types of treats. I don’t think the flavor or texture is appealing.
This has worked wonderful for me and my cat. I will admit he also isn't a fan of the taste, and the chewables definitely aren't small. However, if I break them up and cover them in churu treats, he loves it and will eat it immediately!
My cat has been on this since he was a kitten and he's never had heartworm.
My cat loves the chewy tablet! She knows when I’m going to the cabinet and gets the box out. I place in middle of her food and she eats that first.
Served it chopped up as a treat outside of her main meal, so that she would be less picky about it. It worked. She loved it.
Love Chewy, great service and timely deliverly as always. However, 3/4 of my cats refuse to eat the Heartgard. We have covered it in Churu (kitty crack) and they lick around it.
Ordered online, Chewy got the script from my vet and sent the meds in a couple of days. My cat loves the Heartgard chewables and it's so easy to "treat" her with one each month.
I recommend this item if your cat isn't picky about what he/she eats. Hobbes is not picky about what he eats. The chewables are big and my cat wouldn't eat it by itself, even when broken up into pieces. I had to completely crumble it in to pieces and mix it with canned food, even then I had to wait until he was really hungry before he finished it off. I feel good knowing he's protected from heartworm, but I'll have to be creative about giving it to him every month. We'll finish this box so it doesn't go to waste, but may try a different brand next time to see if he actually likes it.
Out of 5 cats, only 1 of mine was difficult about taking this. 4 of them gobbled it up instantly without problem. For one cat, I had to chop into a few smaller pieces and mix with wet pate' food to get it in him. He ate it in the food without a problem. Definitely will continue to purchase, so I can ensure my cats are protected.
