Love how this feed has all the raw ingredients mixed together plus the pellets. Great quality and price for organic food delivered fast!
My layers like the feed, however, when I open a bag there is alot of "fines" or dust in bags. I have ordered enough of this to know that it is consistently filled with say 50% pellets and the rest dust and some scratch feed. I have only had 1 bag that was mostly pellets so I thought maybe it would improve but has not. My chickens produce a lot of eggs on this feed but it is misleading to sell "layer pellets" when it is not.
My birds liked the food but there were 1-2 cups of round pink very hard seed, yellow in middle, that they could not eat. I had trouble smashing them with a hammer on a rock, then they could eat the yellow inside. Too much waste those big seeds should have been ground or cracked. All of it was a bit big for a crumble ,I had to clean out holes in my feeders a couple times a day.
Opened the bag to find mold and pantry moths flying out, also little flying black bugs.... I know it's organic haha but now the creatures are in my house... Yuck!
I was excited to find this food, but when I got it, half of it looked like it was powder. Pulverized. Unlike an animal that might lick up food dust, chickens won't use it, so it's wasted. I had to put the entire bag through a colander outside before I could use it!!! I wrote customer service, and they immediately sent me a new bag. But guess what--the new bag was the exact same! Colandered it all again. I also find that the chickens pick the "fun bits" out and then really slow down eating the pellets. And their poop smells worse on it.
I was hesitant in trying this product given the price point. However, after researching the ingredients and how clean they were coupled with the fact that I could get this delivered without an additional shipping fee (I live in the city, so a bit away from many farm stores that with shipping pretty much make it about the same price), I decided to give it a try. I find that my hens (some bantam some production layers) enjoy this feed just as much as their previous feed, but the quality of the eggs has been much, much better. The eggshells are strong and the yolks are more vibrant. I feel they even stay fresh longer given what seems to be a stronger shell. I will continue purchasing HenUp and am looking forward to trying the scratch grains and other products. I just wish they would also come out with a treat!
I like the ingredient list, and the hens liked the pellets, but sadly, half the bag was dust. I would try again if they improve how it holds up, but I won’t buy this version again.
Wow - FINALLY a complete feed for my hens that is Organic, Non-GMO, and SOY FREE! I have benchmarked HenUp against many of its competitors and the quality and palatability (my ladies love it!), you can't find a better product line for the price. Not to mention the fact that I can auto-ship it directly to my home, I will be a customer for as long as I have laying hens. I can't say enough good things about the Hen Up Layer feed! If you can't figure out if it is worth the price - the answer is YES IT IS!!! For context: I live in a city and have 10 layers (city math won't allow me to do have more than 10 hens). Ever since switching them over to Hen Up, the eggshells have been even stronger (I didn't think that was possible ?!?) and my family members with soy sensitivity were able to eat the eggs my hens produced without any issue.
I received a bag of dust. Complete waste of money.
