FAQ

Where do your herbs come from?

Our individual ingredients are sourced from China. Our herbs are sourced individually from specific providences of China because of optimal growing conditions (drainage to the soil, sun patterns, quality of the soil, etc.) For example, only the providence of Shanxi has grown astragalus for thousands of years because its conditions consistently provide the highest quality. However, each and every batch of herbs that we bring in to make our formulas is tested in the U.S. to ensure purity, authenticity, and safety.

What kind of safety measures do you take with your ingredients?

Each and every batch of herbs that we use to make our formulas is tested in the U.S. to ensure purity, authenticity, and safety. From the soil the herbs grow in to the finished bottles going out the door, we monitor every step of the process, using only proven, trustworthy suppliers, holding ourselves to the highest ethical standards and abiding by the most stringent testing and manufacturing guidelines in the world. To ensure that only the most authentic herbs go into Herbsmith herbal blends, all raw materials used in production are subjected to a battery of tests including Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), a sophisticated means of identifying the makeup of individual substances in a given compound. This unique fingerprint confirms the chemical composition and authenticity of each and every herb we use and allows us to use only the most high - quality herbs available. The herbs next undergo High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), a test performed on all pharmaceuticals to confirm the consistency and concentration of the compound. This step assures that each herb is at its maximum potency and effectiveness.Further testing for moisture content, dissolution, heavy metals (lead, arsenic, mercury, cadmium) and microbial content are performed on every batch, including Aristolochic Acid and Chloramphenicol testing. When the products arrive in the United States for manufacturing, they are reviewed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to further guarantee that every element that goes into Herbsmith herbal blends meets the absolute highest standards for purity and safety.

What does the NASC (National Animal Supplement Council) Seal of Quality mean?

    Good for my trusty sidekick

    By on

My hiking buddy is slowing down a little, hes a 10 year old coonhound mutt (about 60#) I like that for his weight I have this big container and only need to give one scoop. Yes, it does have a very herbal scent to it, but its not bad. Honestly I have spent one too many times considering putting it into my coffee. My dog is picky, but with a little splash of water ontop to mix it in - he gobbles it right up. I use it really as a preventative, and its the middle of the ice age in Wisconsin, but dog does seem less sore after gallivanting around.

Large breed puppy with growing pains

    By on

This has worked great with my leonberger who was 7 months old when we first started giving it to him. He had been experiencing growing pains in his hind legs. He is now 8 months old and is doing 100x better then when we first started! Would recommend this to large breed owners who are dealing with growing pains!

    Smells of herbs VERY strongly

    By on

My cat, Scout, has a deformed paw that causes him some pain occasionally, so I was on the market for something to dull his aches. He will eat almost anything--I call him my little garbage disposal. As soon as I popped open this jar of powdered herb supplement, the smell was entirely overwhelming. It smells like you have a spice market inside of your nose! I couldn't imagine wanting to ingest this myself because of the smell, so I was worried Scout would feel the same way. Sure enough, he hates it. I've tried to hide a little bit inside pill pockets, mix it in with his wet food, etc. and nothing works. As far as the products efficacy, I can't comment, because everybody that gets a whiff of this My cat, Scout, has a deformed paw that causes him some pain occasionally, so I was on the market for something to dull his aches. Works great!

We have a 10.5 year old beagle with terrible arthritis. We add this to her dry kibble and she LOVES it! Our other rescue, a beagle/dachshund mix loves it too! No bad side effects and seems to help with the discomfort. Would definitely recommend.
