Don't bother with the collar...
Purchased this collar for the large slider for our second dog (puppy) only because the picture shows the MS-5 but the description says it comes with the MS-4. It has been less than a month the collar literally disintegrated, the chip only works sometimes...it is just so cheap!! MS-5 works much more consistently. For such an expensive dog door these collars/chips are ridiculously priced, extremely low tech, and unless you remove the device from the cheap strap and zip tie it to a real dog collar you will loose it...I am back ordering the MS-5 because it has already fallen off of in the yard somewhere...I think my teenage son could put together a better system with a RFID card and a 3d printer....they need an upgrade to make this worth the price!
I've ordered 5 of these since December 2020. Two have failed, one since my most recent January order. No response from my first comment.. SECOND TIME asking, why a 600.00 door with cheap tags. ? How can this be resolved? Do I just keep ordering these tags that fail in less than a month?
Easy fix for longevity of collar
The collars are rather flimsy, before putting on my dog I cure that problem by wrapping a band of electrical tape on both sides of strap attachment get easily a year out of them.
Test light shows battery is good, but it dosent open the door. Quit working after a few months and multiple battery changes.
Long lasting product
I have had the door and these collars for over 10 years. The system works great. Yes, batteries lose their power and yes we have had two cases where I found the top in the yard. Simply snapped it back on with a new battery and off it goes. In 10 years I have only had two collars. We notice the battery is done when our dog sits by the door and whines. it takes about two minutes to fix the problem. The door itself has worked flawlessly all this time. I highly recommend it and if it ever does stop working I will replace it with the same door from the same company.
terrible waste of money
I so wish I didn’t fork out so much money on these. The collars break constantly
How can the electronic door be so outstanding, and yet the collars that come with it I made so poorly? I have 3 dogs so I purchased 2 extra collars. It’s been three or four days since we’ve put the collars on them, and the cover fell off one already, and the collar is fraying and junk. Ridiculous! I’m really upset because I purchased them for safety reasons and the electronic door was so highly rated, so I didn’t think to look at the previous collar reviews. Sound like I will writing a letter to the company who makes this door/collars- ugh!
Good concept bad execution
My pups and I enjoyed them having the freedom to come in and out of our home when they wish with the collar and door. The collar worked amazingly for a week until my dog scratched on it and it came apart. It took one week for the collar sensor to break. It is not great for long term use. You'll have to keep buying these 40 dollar collars every other month
MS-4 Collar Poor quality
We have now purchased a total of 8 of these collars in the last 5 months and they barely last 2-3 months. Not Chewy's fault. The company that makes them clearly makes a subpar product. The electronic pet door that the collars go to works great, however, the collars are the problem.
After less then a month of use it the cover fell off and exposed the microchip. It stopped working. It may have been bumped but given that it’s meant to be worn by a dog who isn’t going to be careful it should be of sturdier quality.
