Bladder stones are collections of mineral crystals that combine together in the urinary tract. They can cause discomfort and lead to more serious problems that require the care of a veterinarian. Because the food your dog eats plays an important role in his or her overall health and well-being, Hill's nutritionists and veterinarians have developed clinical nutrition especially formulated to help support your dog's bladder health. Dogs need the right balance of minerals to maintain good bladder health. Excess minerals can encourage the formation of crystals in the urine, which can lead to the creation of bladder stones.

- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.

I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?

My little guy really likes this
By Cindy on Feb 19, 2021
Bert has only been on the canned and dry food for a little over a week and his peeing issues haven't changed. He is a slow eater, it often took him over an hour and eat the dry food or eat it all. As a result, our other dog has weight issues and has been finishing his food. He loves this canned food mixed with the dry c/d and licks the bowl.

great taste and my dog loves it
By Patrick on Feb 19, 2021
my dog needs to be on this prescription diet and he really loves it, it is tasted and easy to digest (my dog also has sensitive stomach that needs to be on i/d, but my vet asked to take care of the Urinary stone before recommending prescription diet for his stomach). he really loves the stew and this diet never upsets his stomach

He loves it!
By Pacoboy on Jan 26, 2021
My Paco has been on prescription food since August after having bladder surgery. I had been buying his food from the veterinarian office but ordering through Chewy is so much easier. Their customer support is amazing, real people answer the phone, no recordings or prompt calls. Paco loves this canned food which I do mix with the dry version as well.

My Maggie likes this
By Laura on Jan 29, 2021
After having bladder stones out, my pup, has to be on a special diet. My Veterinarian put her on a special food and she wouldn't eat it. So, I found this food and he ok'd it. Well, my Maggie eats it right up. My only trouble with it is the cost. But I buy her food before paying bills and my own food , that way I know she has what she needs.

Almost Human Stew
By SueJ on Jan 31, 2021
I use a couple tbsps of this canned stew to mix with my dog’s dry food and it almost looks like I could eat it! It smells good and she absolutely loves it. It has real veges and pieces of meat and the texture is like stew instead of a gelatenous canned food.

Really works for my Beagle
By Katie on Feb 6, 2021
My Beagle came to us with a history of UTIs. We have only had her since March 2020 and been to the vet 3 times for UTIs. Since having this food, we haven't had an issue and the vet says "her pee looks perfect"!

She Loves It
By Burbmom on Jan 15, 2021
My dog has had bladder problems since puppyhood. She was on this very young but did not like it now that she is 4 she loves it. Have some Royal Canin S/O she quit eating until I put it in the processor now she eats that too. Sometimes they need a change in taste and texture.

Great Quality
By Picky on Feb 7, 2021
Our dog is a rescue and is super picky about her food. We were worried after trying other medicated food that she wasn’t going to eat this.....but she loved it!! Less stress knowing she is eating well.

Worked wonders
By Rich on Dec 21, 2020
The Chaney folks got the prescription for me. They shipped quickly. The wet food appears to be dissolving the kidney stone we suspect is causing the problems. Dogs appears to be passing the smaller pieces with minimal discomfort. We did not confirm the diagnosis, just treating as if true with diet, antibiotic, and pain med. dog still spunky.

My dog loves this food!
By Missy on Jan 13, 2021
My beagle forms calcium oxalate crystals so at my veterinarian’s advice, I needed to have her on a special diet. She likes Hill’s c/d in both the dry and this canned chicken stew. I’m glad to have found a diet she enjoys that will help to prevent future stones.
