Questions & Answers

9 Customer Questions

Does the pate chicken dissolve stones similar to the stew chicken? The stew description states that it will dissolve the stones where as the description of the pate does not include that statement.
Answer by ChewyAug 30, 2022
This is formulated to help dissolve struvite stones and lower recurrence risk and lowers risk for formation and recurrence of calcium oxalate stones.

If my dog does not eat a whole can, do I need to put the remaining food in the refrigerator or can I cover and leave on counter for later?
Answer by ChewyJul 25, 2022
Your pet’s bowl should be emptied of moist or canned food not eaten by your cat or dog within 4 hours if the ambient temperature is above 50°F. Opened cans should be stored in the fridge, at temperatures between 40-45°F, for a maximum of 5-7 days. Any cat or dog food remaining after that time should be thrown out. The best way to store opened cans of cat or dog food is to use a plastic pet food lid that fits the top of the can to prevent moisture loss and transfer of odors. If a plastic lid is not available, plastic wrap also provides a very good moisture, air and odor barrier. Zip-to-close bags provide good moisture barriers but do not provide good oxygen and odor barriers.

Are the cans bpa free?
Answer by ChewyJul 05, 2022
The internal coating used in Hill's 2.8-ounce (85 gram) and 5.5-ounce (156 gram) cans does not contain BPA. Hill's produces large cans (13 ounces) in 2 manufacturing locations which have different can suppliers. Cans used in one location do currently contain BPA in the internal coating. A new coating has been identified from this can supplier that does not contain BPA. Cans from the second production location do not contain BPA in the internal coating. These cans will contain the letter "W" in the manufacturing date code.

How much sodium is in this canned food? Is there more sodium in this food than the canned k/d?
Answer by ChewyJan 06, 2022
The c/d Multicare Chicken Flavor Wet Dog Food contains approximately 0.29% sodium on a dry matter basis. The k/d with Chicken Wet Dog Food contains approximately 0.2% sodium on a dry matter basis.

Made my dog sick

My dog threw up 7 times and had to go to the vet after one can. I had a case left and my vet would not by it for half price. I hope it was just one bad can and no other dogs get sick.

Just what we needed

Our picky, picky eater loves this dog food, and it has helped resolve her urinary issues. We'd tried giving her another brand, but after sniffing it she wouldn't eat one bite, even when we waited until she was hungry. She just looked miserable. Thank goodness this brand works and she loves it!

Well Liked Prescription Dog Food!

My dog really loves this food. Surprise since it is a prescription food and I was worried that he would turn his nose up at it. Chewy got the prescription in a timely manner and sent it ASAP.

Hard and Gross

I bought this stuff from Chewy because the two cans I bought from the vet were super hard and crumbly. The ones I received from Chewy were just as hard and crumbly so it seems to be the way this food is. I was told that the purpose of adding the moist food to my dogs diet was to add more moisture to help prevent the formation of bladder stones. I do not see how a food this hard can possibly add much moisture to his diet. This stuff is disgusting and I feel bad feeding it to my dog even though it is what my vet recommends. Am going to look for a second opinion and an alternative food for my dog. The kibble is fine, but this pate is awful.

Dry and hard, left dog uninterested

I was incredibly disappointed in the case I purchased. The food is dry and crumbly. I've not been able to get my dog interested in eating it at all. I've added water and pureed it and still not much luck. Next time I need to order the stew version!

Top 1000 Contibutor

Appears to be working

My dog had structure crystals and nearly constant UTIs, so his veterinarian recommended this food. We tried Royal Canin, but it was making him vomit. He unfortunately wouldn’t touch the Pro Plan UR food. So that just left Hill’s. It has my least favorite ingredients of the 3 brands, but my dog is eating it and tolerating it pretty well. My only complaint is that it includes beef– he’s sensitive to beef, and it sometimes causes GI upset. Especially considering that this food is labeled “chicken and rice”, it would be nice if the main protein was chicken. Other than that, it’s pretty good (and that’s an issue specific to my dog). This food is definitely a loaf, it’s very dry. I add water to get it to more of a pate consistency.

Good stuff

Winnie really likes it. We're going back to the vet in a couple weeks to see if her bladder stones have dissolved?

Bland taste

As a beagle I am a foodie, but this is not a tasty food, unfortunately as it is Vet suggested for my bladder stones my friend needs to cover the food with sliced chicken. I suggest the makers need to add more chicken flavor.
