Questions & Answers

7 Customer Questions

Does the pate chicken dissolve stones similar to the stew chicken? The stew description states that it will dissolve the stones where as the description of the pate does not include that statement.
Answer by ChewyAug 30, 2022
This is formulated to help dissolve struvite stones and lower recurrence risk and lowers risk for formation and recurrence of calcium oxalate stones.

If my dog does not eat a whole can, do I need to put the remaining food in the refrigerator or can I cover and leave on counter for later?
Answer by ChewyJul 25, 2022
Your pet’s bowl should be emptied of moist or canned food not eaten by your cat or dog within 4 hours if the ambient temperature is above 50°F. Opened cans should be stored in the fridge, at temperatures between 40-45°F, for a maximum of 5-7 days. Any cat or dog food remaining after that time should be thrown out. The best way to store opened cans of cat or dog food is to use a plastic pet food lid that fits the top of the can to prevent moisture loss and transfer of odors. If a plastic lid is not available, plastic wrap also provides a very good moisture, air and odor barrier. Zip-to-close bags provide good moisture barriers but do not provide good oxygen and odor barriers.

Are the cans bpa free?
Answer by ChewyJul 05, 2022
The internal coating used in Hill's 2.8-ounce (85 gram) and 5.5-ounce (156 gram) cans does not contain BPA. Hill's produces large cans (13 ounces) in 2 manufacturing locations which have different can suppliers. Cans used in one location do currently contain BPA in the internal coating. A new coating has been identified from this can supplier that does not contain BPA. Cans from the second production location do not contain BPA in the internal coating. These cans will contain the letter "W" in the manufacturing date code.

Is this a wet dog food with Gravy or the soft meat dog food?
Answer by ChewyMar 31, 2022
This food has a pate consistency.

GROSS GROSS

this so called loaf looks like it came from a 1950's bomb shelter in someone's back yard. Wasnt expecting a brick loaf. I called them up and they were kind enough to reimburse me and asked me to donate it. Ugh cant imagine any dog eating this but I will donate it. My dog has crystals in her urine. I wanted to by a wet Urinary Care product to put on her dry prescription food to help out. I have now ordered The Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Adult Urinary SO Moderate Calorie Thin Slices In Gravy Canned Dog Food. At least this wont be a concrete blob. It's pieces of meat in gravy.

Awful, possibly old product

We were getting the hills cd chicken stew dog food and my old puppy because was having a hard time chewing the pieces so I order the hills cd chicken flavor dog food. The picture showed little pieces which looked easy to chew . The date on the can is 2023 and the date on my current chicken stew has a 2024 date. You have to mash down this with a fork and when you do, it so slippery, it slides off the plate and onto the counter or floor.

my dog likes it.

This food is much denser than her old Royal Canin. Vet put her on it. Even with her old food, I’d put 1/3 c. into her bowl & add hot water, mash it with a fork. This was to get more water into her. Warms the food too. This food is harder to scoop. It’s best if I do it as I always have, measure out 6 cans, each has 4 1/3 cup servings. I wrap each in a baggie, stack them in a plastic container & save in fridge for 12 days of her food ready. They also scoop much easier when not cold, from newly opened can. My vet wants Maggie on this and Maggie likes it. I gave the kibble too, as a small evening snack sprinkled in her kibble puzzle. That makes it take longer to find all the pieces and seem like a bigger deal to Maggie. I’m fine with this food.

Healthy dog foos

My 10 year old Shih Tzu was always a very picky eater. She would often go without eating for 3 days at a time. Since she recently had surgery to remove a stone from her ureatha she was put on this prescription for life. Thank goodness she loves it and now eats twice a day.

Very expensive and my dog won’t eat it.

Ten year old shihtzu/pug mix hates this food. He leaves it in the bowl for 1-2 days before entertaining eating it. I end up throwing away so much of it.

Made my dog puke

This stuff made my dog throw up. There was a bunch of white gelatin looking stuff in the can and thats what was mostly present in his puke. A little concerning considering this is a prescription food not to mention expensive.

Healthy choice

It was getting to be that time when you know your pup is tired of the same old thing. But I had to keep her on a specific prescription product. My vet recommended this and my dog loves the change. She likes the texture too.

Just do not like this at all

The food is HARD and VERY difficult of get out of can and break up. If I have to get the urinary care again, I'd never get this one. It wasn't until after I got this and tried to get it out of the can that I went into Chewy and saw there were other choices that had the same consistency of the Science SD. The one I got is terrible.
