Questions & Answers

I received a case of these from the pantry, but my cat is healthy. Can I still feed this to her? I don't want to let them go to waste.
Answer by ChewyJun 04, 2018
Since this is a prescription food formulated to meet specific diet restrictions from known health issues, this food should not be fed to any other animal than the one prescribed due to the restriction of specific nutrients. Prescription diets can be detrimental to an otherwise healthy pet if that pet doesn't have the ailment for which the food is designed.

Under feeding instructions what is meant by schedule 1 schedule 2 and schedule 3?
Answer by ChewyMay 13, 2020
It is recommended to select a feeding schedule based on the following patient criteria. Schedule 1: Cage Rest. Schedule 2: Surgery, Sepsis, Cancer, Trauma, Fever, Feline Hepatic Lipidosis. Schedule 3: Severe Burn, Injury or Head Trauma. Please consult with your vet to determine the correct feeding schedule for your pet.

Does the Hills a/d prescription cat food come in small cans?
Answer by ChewyFeb 07, 2020
At this time, this recipe is only manufactured in a 5.5 oz can.

Does anyone know the water percentage a can has in it?
Answer by ChewyJan 25, 2018

Syringe Feeding Sick Kitty

Our cat has a tumor in her jaw and can no longer eat unassisted. She has lost 1 pound in 1 month and is down to 6lbs. She is very hungry and wants to eat. She is well otherwise. We started syringe feeding a/d 1 can mixed with 1/2 cup of water 40cc fed 6 times a day. (one whole can) Its slow going, but she is gaining some weight and is active and happy. We will continue this until she decides that she is ready...it is giving us wonderful quality time with our beloved pet.

Good product for sick kitty

My 18 year old kitty goes through phases every several months in which she stops eating. We are still trying to figure out why with her vet, but at this last occasion, A/D was the only food she would eat. We gave it to her for several weeks and she loved it. It is a perfect consistency for her, as she has no teeth. This food was a lifesaver and nursed her back to health. She is now back to her regular food, but we have this on hand just in case.

only wet food my 19 year old kitty will eat!

Being that Snookie is 19 years old and old age is taking her away from us, a/d is what keeps her going along with a lot of love from her Mom and Dad. We've tried so many different prescription wet food and a/d has been her only source of nutrition. She's still picky at her old age. Thanks a/d for keeping her going.....

A/D prescription wet dog food

Chewy is fantastic! The food arrived the day after I ordered it! This prescription wet food is wonderful. Although it's expensive, it's the only wet canned food my 15 year old Chi will eat. Just as humans lose muscle mass as we age, so do animals. I'm just trying to keep him from getting too thin, and it's working.

Life saver

We have a diabetic cat that sometimes gets hypoglycemic. When he does, he doesn't want to eat, which is critical to stabilizing his glucose levels. This usually is the only thing I can get him to start eating again, and that helps to start stabilizing his glucose levels again. It's also helped other cats we've had when they were recovering from illnesses.

It felt like a miracle seeing my dog eat again

My dog had quit eating and was diagnosed with kidney disease. A vet at urgent care recommended this food and my dog surprising ate it and he is continuing to eat it. It has kept him with us a bit longer. So grateful for this food and the vet who sent it home with us.

Picky eater

After months of trying to find food that our 13 yr old lab would take medicine with, our vet recommended this. It has worked well for over a month now. She loves it.

Helped save my cat’s life

My 12 y.o. cat was diagnosed with triaditis, had almost completely stopped eating and lost a little over 1 pound in one month. I bought multiple types of foods, wet and dry, tried heating his food, adding water, broth and even tried just feeding him bland chicken and rice but nothing worked. He would only eat tiny bits at a time then walk away from the food. I thought I would lose him. After doing some research I asked my vet about this food and they approved it for me. They also prescribed him steroids which helped a ton as well. After a few weeks of steroids and this food my cat is back to his normal perky, food loving self and eats 1 can daily. And I can tell he is regaining his weight.

The ONLY Food my cat tolerates

My 19 year old cat has been on this special diet for several years due to a variety of life-threatening problems (several different cancers, etc.). He had previously been on a special diet (canned & dry) for urinary tract problems but stopped eating due to his worsening health and he quickly lost weight and interest in life. This “emergency” food was the only food that attracted him to eat and is now the only one his body can tolerate. Despite the cost and now supply chain problems, our cat is doing well.

Great for aging dog

Charlie had gotten to where he wouldn’t eat and had an upset stomach. His vet fed him some AD and he loved it. He’s been eating it for about a month now and is doing very well. Thank you!
