Questions & Answers

5 Customer Questions

Where is Hill's Prescription Diet d/d canned food made and where are the ingredients sourced from?
Answer by ChewyNov 03, 2020
This food is made in the USA. Hill's sources raw materials only from countries where there are reliable safety procedures in place, primarily in the United States, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and several European countries

there chunks of potato visible in this food, or are they blended into the food?
Answer by ChewyFeb 26, 2019
The chunks of potato are not visible in the dog food.

Why is there salt in this dog food?
Answer by ChewyMar 10, 2020
Salt is an important component of your dog's diet and has a crucial role to play in his well being. Salt (or sodium chloride) maintains bodily fluids and is needed for the functioning of organs and nervous system. Salt can be added to products to improve their taste. However, since great taste can be achieved without unnecessarily high salt levels, Hill's strictly controls the salt content of their food, without compromising on the taste or its nutritional value. With Hill's® Science Diet®, you can be sure that your dog is getting just the right balance of nutrients without the risks associated with excess salt.

A half a can of this food would equal how much dry food? And is it ok to mix?
Answer by ChewySep 14, 2019
The suggested feeding amounts are based off your pet's weight and the amount they need on a daily basis if being fed a wet food diet only. If you'd like to mix wet and dry food together, it's recommended to consult with your vet for the proper feedings. You want to make sure you aren't overfeeding your pet.

chicken free

We swapped Riley from the z/d because we're trying a truly chicken free diet. Riley likes this flavor SO MUCH MORE than the z/d and I'm upset that we didn't switch him sooner. I have to make "meatballs" out of his food so I put it in the blender and mix it on up on the "spread" setting and it comes together perfectly. Still not sure if it's helping his GI inflammation but even if it's just more palatable I'll consider it a win at this point! Prescription food is ridiculously expensive but we do what we need to do and this one seems a better value price wise than many of the others we've tried simply based on Riley's reaction to when we open the can. Bonus is that there are pop tops and I don't need a can opener like I did for the z/d.

Only thing that works for my Pug

My pug is 11 years old and has historically been allergic to everything. We put him on this diet when he was 6 years old after having developed non-stop skin allergies. They finally went away!! He's never excited about eating it but will eventually. Poor guy. Recently I was curious and tried the Hill's non RX skin sensitivity food since this stuff is EXPENSIVE hoping the allergies would have gone away but within a month he developed dry skin and hair loss and was visibly uncomfortable :( still feel guilty. four stars because of the price

It’s the only one that works

My chihuahua is extremely picky and it’s been a struggle finding an easily digestible meal. He’s developed a an allergic reaction to poultry products so it has been very difficult to find some thing that doesn’t make him ill. This is the only thing working. He’s not thrilled with it but no more stomach pain, bloating and diarrhea. The reason I didn’t give it five stars is because it stinks up my house terribly.

Great Product

This product helped my dog with skin and digestive issues. He no longer has any stomach issues from the food he is eating. He likes the taste and can’t wait to get more.

He Loves it!

We bought this new food after a set of very expensive allergy tests showed that the poor guy was allergic to nearly everything he was eating. It smells better than the "regular" food and he runs for his bowl at every meal. Only problem: the pop top can makes it harder to portion it out.

Duck Dogfood

This is very good dog food if your dog is having medical issues digesting other foods. This food has solved our pancreatitis issue for an older dog. Although this food is very good it is extremely expensive with no coupons available on this site.

Full of Hot Air

75% of the cans I have used of this product contain at least 15% air. Time for Hill's to figure out a better packing system and why they continue to steal customers money. Or better yet, knock 15% off their price until they do figure out the problem.

Use By Date

I received this towards the end of October and the expiration date is January 2021, I'm very disappointed my dog is a Pomeranian. I bought two cases and I think for $50.00 for 12 cans the expiration date should be extended much further than 2 months, I think they wanted to get rid of it and I was the unfortunate recipient.
