What is the difference between z/d perscription food and d/d food?

Hill's Prescription Diet d/d Skin/Food Sensitivities Potato & Venison Formula Dry Dog Food uses venison as the main protein while Hill's Prescription Diet z/d Original Skin/Food Sensitivities Dry Dog Food uses hydrolyzed chicken as the main protein. The ingredient, guaranteed analysis, and Calories are differ as well. Please consult your veterinarian for the correct diet for your dog.

does this kibble cause my dog to drink more?
Answer by ChewyApr 07, 2018
It is not reported to cause excessive thirst. We do suggest talking to your vet if this is something occurring with your pet.

Is dd prescription dog food ok for dogs that tend to have bladder stones
Answer by ChewyJan 11, 2020
This Prescription Diet d/d recipe is not intended to help with bladder stones. The Prescription Diet c/d or k/d recipe would be a great alternative. We highly recommend consulting with your veterinarian to ensure which recipe is best for your pet.

He loves the food...

But I'm not sure the food loves him. I have all faith in Hill's Rx Diets regardless of the naysayers. It has never let me down. Jerry is a sheepadoodle with food sensitivites - some foods tolerated and some are not. We tried the venison version and he just loved it. I introduce new things so gradually that, yes, sometimes it takes awhile to see the true outcome. By the time we reached a 1/2 and 1/2 ratio, the barfing began. I backed off to a smaller portion and still a no-go. I went entirely back to his original Hills ID Low Fat and am letting him get back to center before giving it another try. If this isn't for him, we'll try another DD version (different protein)! If not, ID has failed us not - ever. So yes, I'd recommend this food - just maybe not for Jerry!

Hill's - sensitive stomach D/D

I'm not sure if I am to rate the product or the delivery. The dog kibble is venison however, venison is not the first ingredient. Potato and potato flour come first. My dog's stomach tolerates this food but she has gained weight while eating it. She is a 14 lb, 8 year old miniature poodle and fed only 1/3 cup of this kibble (divided in half) a day in two meals. I add a little scrape of canned food and a small amount of sodium free green beans vegetable. The canned is a weight management variety by Rachel Ray.

He really likes it!

I wanted to find a cheaper alternative to the fresh food I've been feeding my guy but would also work for his food sensitivities. He can't eat poultry or beef, so he's been eating venison and fish. This venison/potato mix as been a real palette pleaser for him, and he seems to like the change up to kibbel. He still gets fresh food one meal and this the other meal. We will also be trying the d/d salmon.

Too many potatoes

Might be good for some but my dog hates it plus it has way too many potatoes. My dog has allergies and this food doesn’t help

5yrs — NO MORE!!!

We had this prescription for d/d venison for 5 years! Worked WONDERS FOR ITCHY SKIN AND LOOSING HAIR….Ordered like always got a bag sealed—- opened but didn’t smell the same? I have to mix filtered water with the girls dry food to make it easier to chew ( it’s small but you can’t break with your hands!). I mixed warm water like always and let it sit- usually it makes a beef smell broth. NOPE! I was concerned. I sat it down for the girls- one of my girls smelled and walked away whining at me. I’m like “ Go eat your food.” She wouldn’t touch it!!!!!!!! The other girl it took her a bit but she ate some. After 2 days of this - I started to panic! My girls need to eat!!!! I am guessing that Hill Science changed the formula of the flavor for the venison type!!!!!!! So I had to call Chewy and get switched to a different flavor! They were AMAZING!!!!! THANK YOU BUNCHES! Praying praying this works. I will submit more later!

Great service and products

Sophie has extreme sensitivities and has to eat a hydrolyzed protein diet. She can be picky but she really likes this. And that says a lot. Her vets at Virginia Tech Veterinary School recommended this.

Working so far...

My 5 year old female golden retriever is allergic to everything. We tried Royal Canin Ultamino but she would occasionally vomit that up and still get hot spots on her stomach. We tried other foods that were salmon and other proteins, but she would still get soft or watery stools. We even tried fresh food from companies like Farmer's Dog and Ollie and her stools were not consistent. She's been D/D Venison for about 10 days and the stools have been PERFECT. No skin reactions. No diarrhea. No vomiting. She begs for it for breakfast and dinner so no issues with the taste. I've been pairing this food with the Hypo Crunchy Dog Treats and once a week she gets a little ground bison as a treat when we make it for ourselves. Keeping her away from all other common proteins (i.e. chicken). The bag is a bit pricey but based on how much she eats (1000 calories/day), it should last me just over 5 weeks, so that's not bad.

High Carb % and Yeast

My dog loves this food. The food has a High carb Content at 55%… carbs turn to sugar which feed yeast. Not sure if this food is contributing to his yeasty ears.

Tasty and fixed problems

My dog loves this food, more than any kibble he's had before. It also fixed his stomach problems, he used to vomit frequently but that has gone away.
