Does the 14.3 lbs bag come with a built in zipper?

This food contains chicken flavor, what is the flavor derived from, is it hydrolyzed chicken? I thought chicken was the worst for food allergic dogs?
Answer by ChewyJul 06, 2021
Prescription Diet Derm Complete Dry Dog food contains Hydrolyzed Chicken Flavor.

Since this food is chicken flavor would it not work for my dog if he's allergic to chicken?
Answer by ChewyJul 16, 2021
Prescription Diet Derm Complete Dry Dog food contains Hydrolyzed Chicken Flavor. Hydrolyzation means during the manufacturing process, chicken and chicken livers have enzymes and water added. This enzymatically breaks the protein bonds into short strings of protein instead of long, intact proteins. This process assures that the protein is broken down so they are too small to trigger an immune response.

What's the difference between Derm Defense and Derm Complete?
Answer by ChewyJun 22, 2021

my dog used this for 5 months w no change

I’ve tried literally everything for my highly allergic silver Labrador!. He is 7 now & has severe alopecia on his sides . The appooquell didn’t help but cytopint injections every 30 days is the only relief he gets . He has had a last cell tumor removed. Recently so I cannot give him anything that suppresses his immune system ( now he is “ officially “ a cancer patient ) It’s frustrating! I tried Hills ZD a few years ago he hated it . I thought he was ok w this food I had mixed w hills WD until I got him completely ok the Derma - then I went on vacay - he stopped eating- period! I was away 2 weeks and though he was with his dog family & in a daycare during the day he just reverted back to eating just Hills WD . I honestly think it’s a waste but you can try it , as for me I’m done . I decided to try a salmon based food for him. Or simply hand make my own dog food ( I have 4 dogs So anyway I’ve seen no improvement with almost ALL the foods etc I’ve tried ! Benedryl still is the fastest way to “ knock down” those attacks ! But cytpoint is the only thing worth paying hundreds for ( he’s 119 lbs so a monthly injection is like 215$ !)

Stopped Working

We started on this food well over a year ago. First, it took almost 6 moths to notice our dogs allergies ha subsided. No more ear infections etc. Over the past several months, food has arrived wet looking, liquid in bottom of bag. I contacted Hills, and it was explained that it was a fat seperation, that nothing has changed. However - we've not had a bacterial/yeast ear infection and constant itching. Upon vet recommendation, we are not switching foods again. Chewy has been great in replacing the bags, however something definitely "has" changed. At 120.00 now for a bag, we cannot afford vet bills on top of this food.

Works but SUPER expensive

I ordered this when the food I've been buying for a year now ran out of stock. My dog has sever food and environmental allergies and it's been such an uphill battle finding her food that she can tolerate and likes. There are a lot of fish options out there but she doesn't like fish so I have to go with another protein and options are limited for sensitive skin. This does the trick and she likes the flavor but I wouldn't go as far as to say that it's improved her environmental allergies which is a shame because it should at this price point. She is now on her second bag and I was hoping to see some improvement on the allergies by now. I will continue to order this until summer is over and then I'm going to try and find a food that she can tolerate that is cheaper. No dog food should cost this much and the large bag is even smaller than the standard large bag at only 22 lbs. If you don't mind the cost, it's a good option for sensitive skin.

Recipe Changed!

The recipe had to have changed. This was one of the only foods my dog could eat without it affecting her anal glands. Not only did the recipe change but they charge more money and don’t add the same amount of food. When my dog has anal gland issues it affects her mood. And she HATES getting her glands expressed. I wish this brand would go back to making my pup happy…

I think it’s working

My dog has only been on it 2 weeks. I am having to mix it with the food I had, it’s a 40 lb bag and I can’t throw it away. However, after saying that, Shiloh has stopped all the licking, chewing, shaking that was going on. She did get a shot at the same time.

Dog likes it

We just started feeding this to our dog so are still in process of switching completely over to it but he seems to like it, and more importantly it doesn’t cause him to have the loose stool his former food did.

Great food

Dixie is a frenchy and is allergic to every protein, but egg. So finding something for us to feed her was a challenge. We tried this food and she is growing and doing great!! No allergie issues!!

Recommend for skin allergies

My Xoloitzcuintli loves this food. I have no problem feeding it to her. I was hesitant when I bought it because of the negative reviews I have read but thankfully we had no issue. Lucy’s skin doesn’t to be as itchy as it once was and some days she isn’t itching at all.

So far so good

We were put on this to try by our vet. Our German Shepard (Ezee) is a very large German Shepherd 14 months. He has gastrointestinal issues and allergies. At this point I’m willing to try anything that would work. He’s been on the kibble about a month, so far he is doing well. The can version of this is gross and sticky. He doesn’t like it and I’m not crazy about wanting to throw up every time I try and feed him. So I’ve been giving him ID turkey can. So far so good. His stools have firmed up and allergies are clear, I’m waiting for the tides to turn but hopefully this will help his needs.
