Description

As cats age, they may require food designed to help reduce nutrient excesses that could be harmful to their system. For example, high levels of sodium, phosphorus and protein can cause increased workload in the kidneys and heart. Kidneys are very important to the health of your cats because they remove waste substances from the blood and maintain the normal balance of fluid and minerals within the body. Once kidney damage occurs, the consequences are usually irreversible. The heart is the most important organ in you pet's body, and factors such as age or weight may affect its function. Poor heart health can affect your cat's lifestyle and mood. Because the food your cat eats plays an important role in his or her overall health and well-being, at Hill's, nutritionists and veterinarians developed clinical nutrition especially formulated to support your older cat's kidney and heart for overall health.

  • Not very tasty

    By on

The can was packed tight that was hard to pull out the can, cut or for my cat to eat. It appears that the food did not have enough moister or the product was old and has started hardening. My senior cat did not like it, so I stop giving it to him.

  • WASTE-OF-MONEY

My precious Persian cat is twelve years old with failing kidneys. Even though this is highly recommend from the vet., I need my cat to eat, and she doesn't like this at all. Very pricey cat food to sit unused.

  • Such prompt service!

I normally get this through my vet but they were out as their order had not been delivered. I was down to my last can for my 17 yr old cat. Then I realized I could order with a prescription through Chewy. It came the next day!. The product is fairly well received by my cat , especially when the can is first opened. He had always been such a finicky eater, I was surprised at how well he will eat this!

  • All elder cats love and thrive on this!

They love the flavor and I can smell the fresh turkey in it . I give them a smaller portion than other foods as it seems filling to them. I do thin the consistency with water. Very happy

  • Hill's prescription G/D canned catfood for hypertension

    By on

My cat was diagnosed with very high blood pressure, causing sudden onset blindness. My veterinarian prescribed medicine for her hypertension, along with a prescription heart care diet. G/D was the only one he could find. I purchased both the canned and dry. My cat tried it once, but I don't believe it agreed with her, and she hasn't eaten anymore. She's eating her regular BB catfood and not getting any salty treats. Perhaps other cats would enjoy the G/D diet, but I can't recommend it based on my cat's preference.

  • Hills G/D Diet

    By on

My cat has to eat this food due to kidney failure. She has lost 75 percent of her kidney function. It does appear to be easier on her body, but she really misses the taste of regular cat food. I wish it had more flavor for her.

  • Several of my cats loved this....

    By on

I have 6 cats, several old and several younger. You're the only place I've found that carries G/D. I got a case, and (typical of cats), some of them love it and some don't. But it's a good food, and I certainly would buy it again.

  • The first snub, ever.

    By on

Two kitties (fed Friskies before adopting) have now been on a diet of high-end & prescription food, incl. a min. of 10 brands/15 flavors in rotation, and this is the first flavor to be snubbed. They wouldn't even try it just a little bit!

  • Our cats love it!

We were a bit afraid that the transition to Hills g/d would be an awful g/d experience. They loved it from the start! Great!
