Description

As cats age, they may require food designed to help reduce nutrient excesses that could be harmful to their system. For example, high levels of sodium, phosphorus and protein can cause increased workload in the kidneys and heart. Kidneys are very important to the health of your cats because they remove waste substances from the blood and maintain the normal balance of fluid and minerals within the body. Once kidney damage occurs, the consequences are usually irreversible. The heart is the most important organ in you pet's body, and factors such as age or weight may affect its function. Poor heart health can affect your cat's lifestyle and mood. Because the food your cat eats plays an important role in his or her overall health and well-being, at Hill's, nutritionists and veterinarians developed clinical nutrition especially formulated to support your older cat's kidney and heart for overall health.

Key Benefits
  • Clinical nutrition especially formulated to support your older cat's kidney and heart for overall health
  • Reduced phosphorus to minimize stress on aging kidneys and reduced sodium to help maintain normal blood pressure
  • Optimal fat levels reduce pancreatic workload and minimize fluid retention
  • Added taurine helps maintain normal heart muscle function for your senior feline

  • Healthy Trick for g/d

    By on

My cat is among THE most picky cats. She loves the dry g/d...not the wet so much. When I sprinkle a packet of Forti Flora over the wet, she eats some of it. Keep sprinkling lightly until your cat eats. Also, crumble a dry (moistened)Instinct "raw boost" for cats. Very tasty. Good Luck!

  • Geriatric diet

    By on

Chewy has been wonderful with my cat’s changing dietary needs from K/D in March to G/D in Dec. He has both kidney disease and recently diagnosed Diabetes . G/D dry and canned are both very palatable while maintaining a low phosphorus diet for his kidneys and helping to keep his Diabetes well regulated along with his low dose insulin. The Chewy staff has been wonderful on all aspects of customer service. Thank you Chewy !!!

  • The only place I could find this food!

    By on

I had been searching for a heart healthy food for my cat who has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Chewy was the only place I could find to have this specific cat food, and they were really helpful in getting the prescription approved by the vet.

  • Hills Prescription G/D canned cat food

    By on

My cat was diagnosed with very high blood pressure, causing sudden onset blindness. My veterinarian prescribed high blood pressure medicine and suggested a heart care diet. I purchased both the canned and dry Hill's G/D. My cat tried It, but I don't believe it agreed with her, and she hasn't eaten anymore. Perhaps other cats would enjoy the G/D diet, but I can't recommend it based on my cat's preference.

  • We highly recommend chewy.com!

    By on

We are thrilled not just with the products and pricing but also with the quick shipping/delivery. Even more important I know all of our 4-legged family members give it Chewy a 5-star rating!! And another added benefit is there is always a 'warm body' available by phone to help answer my questions.

  • Cats won't touch it.

    By on

I bought this for a cat newly diagnosed with a blood clot. He took one sniff and then walked away. Since then, he walks around it- he won't go near it. None of my other 4 cats will eat it either.

  • My cat loves it.

    By on

My cat is thirteen and had been on a K/D diet which she did not love. My vet decided that she needed more nutrition because she was losing too much weight and muscle mass. Since changing she has gained some weight and definitely enjoys the food much more.
