Ordering from Chewy is so easy. Delivery is expedient and product has kept my elderly dog with congestive heart failure comfortable and still with me.

Dog whom eats everything wont eat it

I am giving 3 stars vs 1 only because I appreciate that a dog food exists to help dogs with heart conditions. However, it’s super expensive for something that doesn’t contain, in ingredients, anything more expensive then other foods nor does it require a different type of processing to manufacture to thereby warrant the extra expense. The high price makes it out of reach for some people who want to feed their ill pet the right food for his/her condition. It loses 1 more star because my little guy, who will eat just about anything, won’t eat it unless I mix it with something else. I’m glad it seems to be working for many other people. … more

    Dog won't touch it

    By on

My dog has heart and kidney problems. He loves the Hills Prescription Diet Kidney formula, but will not touch the heart formula. The one time he ate it he threw up. I will try again, but don't hold out much hope for this food. I wish it cam in other flavors besides chicken. I think salmon would be great.

    Expensive By - Products

The choices for a low sodium heart healthy dry dog food are very slim. This particular one (Hills Science diet heart care h/d) has a very good sodium level, some good ingredients for the heart and to help replace what your pooch may loose with diuretics but then uses garbage to make up the rest and charges two to three times what it is worth because they know the choices are slim. The kibble size is too large for smaller breeds so is not universal and it is only available in one large size bag at the cost of ONE ARM and ONE LEG. Plus Tax

    Too crunchy for older dog

My 11 y/o beagle with CHF wouldn’t eat this due to the large size and hardness of the food. We switched to the canned version and she loves it.
