- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

Bonnie's reaction to new food
By Bonnie on Dec 28, 2020
I can't get my dog to eat this food. I've tried warm broth, dividing it with other dog food, adding ground turkey and she will only eat the ground turkey and the other dog food that is not this prescription. Any suggestions to get her to eat this I would be very grateful.

Buy the smallest bag to see if it works for your dog
By RCM1 on Dec 12, 2020
This is the 4th bag of digestive health food from various brands I have purchased for my dog. She was recently diagnosed with IBD and none of them have helped at all. She can handle up to at most 1/2 cup of these types of kibble before everything goes downhill again. She does like this one.

Could be better!!!
By Jens on Oct 29, 2020
The bag isn't big enough to feed a Labrador and it's WAY, WAY too expensive for the amount you provide. It did help her condition a very small amount but her stools are still quite liquidy.

Helps heal an IBD flare
By Shammy on Sep 10, 2020 Top 25 Contributor
echo has struggled with IBD for years now. The last flare she had we put her on this food to see if it could calm her belly down. It did work, along with meds. She likes the taste. It does turn her stool an interesting shade of orange however!

Great for dogs with sensitive stomachs
By Dogtown on Jun 20, 2020
Two of my dogs seemed to always have runny stools and I thought I was giving them high quality dog food. My vet recommended Hill's prescription diet dog food and I can't get over the change in both dogs. It has worked wonders!

For Lillie
By schnauzers on Jan 6, 2020
Our schnauzer, Lillie, has been on this nutrition for several years per her propensity to develop bladder stones. She has not had any stones for the length of time that she has been on this food. Job well done, Science Diet!

Just the right thing
By OldHiker on Sep 4, 2019
This food settled our dog’s stomach down so she could eat after a bout of diarrhea. We had been making chicken and rice whenever she had an episode of diarrhea but this is so much easier and works!

Had to switch for medical issues!
By dmoroney on Jun 5, 2019
Our Collie/German Shepherd Dog Sami suffers from food sensitivities as well as skin disorders. We have used a couple of different well known brands of dog food which she did okay on for awhile. Recently she was found to have Addison’s disease and suffered a crisis in which she was very sick and hospitalized for 3 days. While at the Vet hospital she was given the Hills ID dog food and she loves it! We found one without chicken to fit her needs and so far so good! My husband laughs and tells her she’s getting Peanut Butter Captain Crunch like dog food! Thanks for helping us get this through our local vet’s office.
