Questions & Answers

What is the size of this kibble in inches?
Answer by ChewySep 11, 2018
The Hill's Prescription Diet i/d has a disk shape kibble. If a smaller kibble is needed, we'd recommended the Hill's Prescription Diet i/d Digestive Care Small Bites Dry Dog Food as an alternative.

Is this a food that your dog can be on permanently or should this just be when he has an upset stomach?
Answer by ChewyNov 07, 2018
We recommend consulting with a veterinarian to determine the duration of feeding this formula to your pet.

Is this hills id gluten free??
Answer by ChewyOct 15, 2018
This food is not grain and gluten free, as it contains Brewers Rice and Whole Grain Corn. For a complete list of ingredients, click the “Nutritional Info” tab, next to the “Description” tab, just under the product photos.

Is there a treat made by science diet that is compatible with dogs who eat the I/d? My girl has the most sensitive stomach and this is the only food that has worked for her. We tried to reintroduce treats and it was not a good move.
Answer by ChewyJan 12, 2019
The Hill's Prescription Diet Hypo-Treats Dog Treats can be used with the i/d formula.

Perfect kibble for my sensitive Standard Poodle

This is the ONLY kibble that my Standard Poodle puppy can tolerate. I had tried 4 others prior. I am so thankful her veterinarian prescribed this i/d Digestive Care kibble for her or I would be hand making everything for her every day as I had been doing since practically the day I adopted her. She hasn't had one upset stomach or bowel since starting eating this food! She eats this in combination with i/d Digestive Care wet/canned food and she is extremely satisfied. It costs a bit more than other brands; but, I feel assured that it is easily digestible, quality dog food, especially since I need a prescription for it from the veterinarian. It has been such a relief to know that our baby's issue was a dietary one, and although it took some trial and error until we ended up on the Hill's Prescription Diet, our poodle is now living her best life!

Changed our Golden's life

We finally listened to our vet when she recommended this dry food. Our Golden had digestive tract issues since she was a puppy. This food cured that, plus using Purina Calming Care has made a world of difference. Chewy makes it easy to buy this food, all you have to do is snap a pic of the veterinarian recommendation, and upload it. Fast, free shipping helps, too.

Chewy was quick to get vet approval

As usual, Chewy was great. The amount of time it took to check in with my vet was very fast. The food itself didn't fix my dog's particular issues (as it turns out) so we need to find a different option. However, she does really like the taste, and besides her unique needs, I think this food could have been great albeit very expensive.

Still waitin

Initial response to kibble was positive when used as a treat and a little sprinkled on his dinner. The next morning I added some to his breakfast. That night it was just his regular food but he would not touch it until he realized the new food was not there. I will give it another try in a few days

I/d digestive care

Recommend this food for digestive issues/upset. One of our corgis had some issues recently and the vet gave us some of this food to bring home. It seemed to help her stomach greatly, so we purchased another bag here. She’s doing very well on it. Price of the product sucks, but we want a healthy dog so we will be sticking with it. Been mixing half and half with her regular food so it’s lasting awhile at least.

Hills prescription dog food for older dogs review

I think this is the dog food to go to! My “baby” has some kind of reflux where he actually puked. It’s so frustrating for him and us. This food has settled that reflux. I’m so thankful to have tried this! Yes, I recommend this dog food:)

Thank you very much

Thank you for your years of serving my canine needs. I have passed on and no longer need your service. I thrived a good 13 years after surviving distemper as a pup, with an uncertain future.

My sensitive stomach rescue loves this

I got my rescue pup when she was 5 months old, and she has had off and on stomach issues. I had her on sensitive stomach food, that helped for awhile, but her tummy issues started again. The vet decided to put her on this and no more loose stools, plus an added benefit is she’s absorbing more nutrients, so less poop! She was eating the kibble mixed with a little bit of the i/d canned, but decided she didn’t like that combination anymore. So she gets the canned separately, mixed with some Fortiflora powder and the kibble goes into her Kong wobble toy and she loves it now that she thinks it’s a treat. So far, so good.

So Far So Good.

My dog is a two year old Giant Schnoodle, named Scarlett. She is a pretty fussy eater. It may be she is just persnickety or maybe she has some GI sensitivity. She loves the I/D canned food, but I was hoping to find something a bit less pricey. She has been eating it (the I/d digestive care dry food) for 3 days now and maybe, just maybe this will be the food she will stick with. She has been eating it and leaving the old food behind. She has a history of eating a new food for a few days and then decides she doesn't like it anymore. Again this may be that she likes the food, but the food doesn't like her. If this food works out I will be thrilled and give it another review with 5 stars.
