Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.

I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state?
Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills?
Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

Is there a dry food with a wet ingredient in one
Answer by • Jul 31, 2019
The Hill's i/d Digestive Care Dry Cat Food also comes in Hill's i/d Digestive Care with Chicken Canned Cat Food and Hill's i/d Digestive Care Chicken & Vegetable Stew Canned Cat Food.
My cat has had digestive upset we suspect is colitis that began about two years ago. The vet recommended he be put on this cat food to manage his symptoms, and for the longest time, it worked. He had occasional flare-ups, but they subsided and overall it was manageable. Until a couple of months ago, when I noticed a new cat on the bag that indicated a reformulation. My cat's flare-ups have become more frequent since then. It's been months now, and he has not adjusted to the new formula. I don't understand what could have changed so much that this food became ineffective for my cat - it seems that most of the ingredients remained consistent - but it is enough of a change that I'm looking into other solutions/diets to treat his digestive issues now, something that I did not do before because the original formulation was enough to manage his symptoms. He may have developed an allergy to chicken (which I read is common among cats with digestive issues), so it may not be entirely the fault of the reformulation, but the timing is fishy.

Love this product
One of my cat's frequently vomits and her vet recommended this food for her. My kitty doesn't vomit as much which is all we ask for. It's nice not coming home from work to cat vomit. I didn't rate it a 5 because I would love if hills made a bigger bag than 8.5 pounds. We go through the bag every month with two cats.

Cat prefers larger kibble
This is one of the only foods that he doesn't throwup. Unfortunately, my recent bag has smaller kibble than in previous orders. He likes bigger kibble. He has been reluctant to eat it and has been wanting more treats. Hopefully, he will eventually get used to the new size.

Helpful digestive care product
My cat was having issues with vomiting and my Veterinarian recommended that I switch her dried food to Hills Prescription Diet Digestive Care i/d. Her digestive issues have improved since making the switch.

CATS LOVE IT
I HAVE ONE CAT WITH IBD. WHENEVER I FEED HER THE HILLS DIGESTIVE CARE, SOME OF THE OTHER CATS COME OVER, SMELL AND PRACTICALLY BEG FOR SOME OF IT. I HAVE BEEN SHARING IT WITH THEM AS A TREAT, AND THEY LOVE IT. I'M GLAD IT TASTES GOOD - MY IBD CAT HAD BEEN DOING WELL SINCE SHE'S BEEN EATING IT. NO MORE STINKY DIARREAH.

Yum yum yum
I have two cats, they are fussy eaters. Both love this food. One could not digest regular kibble, and had severe diarrhea on the prescribed (Pro Plan HA) food. My other cat is a picky eater and needed to loose weight plus had severe constipation.

Works for my cat
I adopted my cat when he was 4 y/o, he came with a sensitive stomach and used to vomit frequently. The vet recommended this as dry food and he is so much better, he loves the flavour too!

Prescription food is nothing to fear!
I was really worried in the beginning, when I was told that my kitty, Sherlock, would have to be on a urinary prescription food for life. I had no idea that he would ever like any of the choices we were given
by our Vet. After all, he already had a wide variety of foods that he really loved, and the thought of corralling him with one food seemed impossible and unfair. Well, we struck gold with this line of food! I asked our vet to prescribe Digestive Care to give some diet variety. Besides helping to keep hairballs at bay, my Sherlock really loves this dry food! This one is a great additional recipe to alternate with the original urinary dry food he enjoys by the same maker. We are both very happy!
