Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state?
Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.

Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.

I see a lot of reviews on Hill’s J/D food and that the dogs refused to eat it …I don’t want to waste my money if my dog won’t eat it …did they fix the problem with the formula ?
My dog has severe allergies and to some foods. Please provide all the ingredients in the prescriptive Hills Science Diet J/D (Joint Care) food.
Is this a good food for a dog with renal issues? What is the sodium level? Is .49% phosphorus ok for a dog who usually eats renal specific food, but hates all renal specific food?
Are hills products made in the USA
Answer by • Jun 22, 2021
This food is made in the USA. Hill's sources raw materials only from countries where there are reliable safety procedures in place, primarily in the United States, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and several European countries. Only two of their ingredients come from China; Taurine and L-Carnitine.
I was skeptical when I first read the reviews about the amazing results people's dogs had. I tempered my expectations and had my, at the time, 10 year old border collie try it. The j/d did work miracles. She had been getting stiff, stopped jumping in the car, and was slowing down. After around 3 weeks of using j/d we noticed the stiffness went away and she was more active. After a little more time she could jump in the car and was like her younger self again!
She is 13 now and while she's starting to slow down again, she still jumps in the car and is less stiff than she was before we started using j/d. We just took her to her annual vet appointment and as usual, the vet was so impressed with her health and stated that she seems like a much younger dog than she is. This food is worth the money and really can work magic on your dog, no tempering of expectations needed.

Dog rejecting 2022 "Upgraded Formula"
Not sure what they changed, but Hill's changed something in the 2022 rebrand of this j/d dry dog food and our dog completely rejects it. For context, our dog will eat anything. I've seen him try to eat pieces of brick on the beach. So it's particularly notable that he won't even get up, sniff, interact with, or acknowledge this.
He ate the old blend of the j/d food just fine (round/spherical pieces) but the reformulated version (disc-shaped) is just a hard pass. We've tried it dry, tried adding water. Sometimes after hours have passed and he's desperate, he will eat a bit - and these times, hours later, his stool is typically extremely soft. Thus, we started adding Bernie's Perfect Poop on top of it, and it's even harder to get him to eat. What has been an afterthought for 2.5 years - feeding the dog - has now turned into hours each day trying just to get him to eat.
I called Hill's and gave them a full report - they have no idea, but, can't recommend this. I've asked our vet for anything else, because the dog will literally eat anything else.

BEST Service EVER!!!
Wow. Simply WOW. I was having a hard time finding Science Diet J/D food for my 13 year old dog, Sammy. My veterinarian suggested I try Chewy and see if they have it. When I ordered online, to my surprise, it was available. So I place the order and signed up for the subscription food program. This is a great way to keep my food supply from running low again. But the best part is that it arrived in 2 days! My panicked state was over, my dog is happy and I am extremely happy. Thanks Chewy for saving the day.

Senior lab/boxer mutt
This stuff worked great for a couple of years until they recently changed the formula. Shortly after the change, my senior pup got horners syndrome and now frequently loses his balance. In all honesty I can't say for certain that it's due to the food change but it's odd how he now absolutely refuses to eat it. We tried different techniques and he will eat around the treats we bury in it or just not eat it at all. He's still motivated by food, just not the jd anymore.

Best dog food
recommended by vet and friends this J/D type is the best for older dogs as they too get aches and pains from old age just like people. If you think about it they would not live as long as they do if it wasn't for us - in the wild they would not survive old age - this formula gives them quality of life during their senior years - and that is what it is all about- be thankful for every day you have with them, that's why they call it the present :-)

California Pet
My doghter loved this until they changed the formula and now she refuses to eat it. She's not a picky eater either. So, something is wrong with this kibble now. Will not purchase in the future.

My dog loves the food. I just wish it was not so expensive, but the price at Chewy was less than other stores.
