Description

The Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care with Chicken Canned Cat Food is clinically proven nutrition that can help transform your pet’s life. As pets age, damage to the kidney tissues may occur, which affects the kidney’s role to function properly and filter toxins and waste from the blood. It is irreversible, and will lead to further loss of kidney function. This may also decrease their appetite, which could eventually result in the loss of muscle mass. And so the Hill’s nutritionists and veterinarians created this special diet, which supports your cat’s kidney function and helps to sustain muscle mass—in fact, the nutrition of k/d is clinically tested to improve and lengthen the quality of life.

  • Not very appealing for my cat

    By on

This product said "Improved Formula and Texture". Honestly I'd hate to see the original formula then. My cat wouldn't touch it. We tried mixing it with her old canned food, but she knew every time. Unfortunately it did not work for our kitty. Chewy was great to work with in trying to find a similar prescription food. If only, Hill's would make a canned food that wasn't chicken or fish.

  • Only food my cat will eat

    By on

My cat had developed kidney failure. Wouldn't eat what my vet had. She can't eat anything with seafood as an ingredient so my choices are limited. I had tried the older version of this food which she would eat but not enthusiastically. She was declining quickly and I actually scheduled her euthanasia. Out of desperation I tried the "new and improved" version for the Hills Chicken k/d. She loves it. She's been eating it with gusto, and her health has improved. In addition Chewy's is so easy to order from. They have a great return policy and their prices match any other vendor. I'm very happy both with this food and with ordering from Chewy.

  • CKD kitty loves it

Our beloved 15.5-year-old cat's kidneys are starting to go, and we recently put her on a renal-friendly diet at the recommendation of our vet. Every cat has different tastes, but our girl loves this stuff (and will go for the Hill's ocean fish pate and dry chicken kidney kibble, as well). I definitely recommend giving a pate-style food a try if your cat turns her nose up at the "meat shreds" types. (Try to grab some samples from your vet before ordering a whole case.) I also recommend slowly introducing it by mixing it into your kitty's old wet food in gradually-increasing quantities over the course of a week or so. • Just for Cats

Tweeny is a silent cat, not even a miau! By going around your legs and around your head in bed at night, she indicates that her dish is empty. She gets a quarter of a 5.5 oz. can, mixed with a quarter of a 2.9 oz. can each time - about 4 times a day. I do not believe in throwing food away, but this would happen if she was fed every 12 hrs.. She was a "Walk-in" about 12 years ago and was already at least 2 years old - with no fur on her back but" puss-filled" holes, that I took her to the vet to have her put down. After a week the vet called and asked if we still wanted her. So she is still with us, sleeping most of the time, seeing the vet for her annual visit and shots at over $100 annually Tweeny is a silent cat, not even a miau! At 84 I am not playing with cats anymore, but I satisfy their needs. without having to taste their food. … more

  • Kidney Care Cat food

Allie has kidney failure, she stopped eating and drinking. The vet gave us a sample of the food to try and she loved it. It was simple to order, it didn't take long for Chewy to contact the vet for approval and we got the shipment the next day. It's been a couple weeks, she is eating and drinking again and I have some hope she will stay with us a little while longer.

  • Thank Goodness

I have picky eaters, who basically run the show on what they will and will not eat. Of course 1 of the 3 develops kidney issues as he got older. We tried this and other brand(s) of kidney prescription diet. My cat will walk by other food towards this to choose to eat this, meal after meal. He seams to enjoy the taste, and texture (pate form is great in my aging boy). Also thankful to Chewy for their excellent work of quickly verifying the prescription with my vet and getting this to me. I had a call within an hour of placing the order about the status (after they contacted the vet already).

  • Louie does NOT like this.

Prince Louie who needs to eat the K/D does not like the chicken at all! -his brother Naughty Ned does not need to eat K/D but is on this as well, as it is easier to feed them both the same things and the vet said it is ok -- Ned eats ANYTHING and everything and he eats this.... LOUIE WILL NOT EAT the CHICKEN at all.

  • MaKitty does not like this!

The vet says she needs to benefit from it but you cant make her eat it. She doesn't like this at all! For the price, you definitely cant waste it. We've mixed it with canned food she used to eat but she doesn't like it at all. We have tried the dried version and she will eat a few bites of it.

  • Good stuff!!

    By on

Cat loves the dry food. She likes the wet now, as well. A miracle happened and her vet said she has no sign of kidney disease. This was my cats second blood test. The doc realized my cat was just a bit dehydrated in the first blood test. She said I can keep her on the KD, so I am. She loves it!!! Now I can feed her protein again, as well.

  • Good for the cat's kidneys

    By on

My cat ate the sample from the Vet; but she is not eating what I purchased. Vet's office told me the dry & wet were basically the same, so as long as she is eating the dry and drinking water (she is), she's okay. So far, I put out a small amount of wet food once a day, just to let it dry up and throw it away the next. But at least it is there if she wants to eat wet food again.
