The Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care Chicken & Vegetable Stew Canned Dog Food is clinically proven nutrition that can help transform your pet’s life. As pets age, damage to the kidney tissues may occur, which affects the kidney’s role to function properly and filter toxins and waste from the blood. It is irreversible, and will lead to further loss of kidney function. This may also decrease their appetite, which could eventually result in the loss of muscle mass. And so the Hill’s nutritionists and veterinarians created this special diet, which supports your dog’s kidney function and helps to sustain muscle mass—in fact, the nutrition of k/d is clinically tested to improve and lengthen the quality of life.

This food can be mixed with dry food.
I see the feeding for my 10lb dog is 1 can a day but the Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care Beef & Vegetable Stew Canned Dog Food for 10lb is 2 1/3 per day. Is that correct?
Answer by • Mar 21, 2018
The size of the can will determine how many cans you'll feed per day. A 10 pound dog will have one 12 ounce can. If feeding a 5.5 ounce can, a 10 pound dog will have 2 1/3 cans.
My chihuahua with early stage kidney disease wont eat the Hills KD dry but will gobble this stew up. Is it ok to feed her exclusively wet?
Answer by • Oct 19, 2017
While the wet formulas are a complete and balanced diet we recommend that you consult with a veterinarian to make to make sure this is the best fit for your pet and their current treatment plan.
Always consult a veterinarian about your pet’s health needs. Customer reviews should not be used as medical advice.

Picky Eater Approved!
My pup has cushings disease, congestive heart failure, and now early stage of kidney disease. He is EXTREMELY picky with dog food and I cook for him too with Dr. Harvey’s canine mix. Have to give him options because I never know what he will like that day. Anyway, we got the food delivered today and he was over the moon excited about it! I’ve never seen him love a dog food as much as he loves this one. He is a tough critic so I thought I’d write a review for any other pet parent struggling to get their dog with kidney issues to eat. I was worried that he wouldn’t like the consistency or texture of the food since he typically prefers and only eats the pate style dog food. But, he surprised me and gobbled it up and licked his plate clean. Hoping this helps with his values when we get a recheck in a month.

Great Food!
My 14 years old Shepsky is extremely piggy eater - has always been. Since her kidneys are not in a great shape, I felt that there was no food for her in the whole world. I ended up getting 3 container of this and she was in love and me too!! There must be a recipe for some appetizing elements in it? What ever is the secret, it works.

Dog Doesn't Like
Annie, our border collie, has a high protein count in her urine. Our vet told us to put her on a low protein renal food. We tried this and while she ate the 1st can, she has decided now she doesn't like it. We had this put on auto ship but had to cancel it as she absolutely will not eat it. You might want to try it as your dog may like it but for Annie who only takes her pills with apple butter that has no protein, she does not like this.

He Surprisingly LOVED It!
After JJ’s blood work returned with early detection of kidney disease, his doctor recommended he start by changing his diet and prescribed him with Hill K/D. She warned me that most dogs find this food unpleasant because of the low protein and to start off with a small bag due to how expensive the brand is. Even my sister in law who was a vet tech says it’s basically “cardboard” to dogs. I went ahead and purchased both wet and dry in hopes he would eat it. And to my surprise? He inhaled it! He’s scheduled for a follow up visit in a couple weeks to see how things are going with his kidneys, but I’m feeling confident the food is helping! I’ve noticed his water intake is looking more normal and he’s needing to go outside less! Looking forward to see his blood work! OH! Also LOVED that chewy reached out to his doc for a doc note!

My dog loves it!
My dog had some kind of acute kidney situation and her kidney values were very high and this diet really seemed to help her. She likes it a lot. It is very goopy, but it has carrots and peas and large pieces of chicken. The cans have a tab so you do not have to use a can opener, which is helpful.

My Dog loves this KD dog food
After trying different kinds of dog KD food for my dog cause she has kidney disease, this was the one she eats the best! And it smells real good so I'm sure that has something to do with it, seems most dog foods for kidney disease smells and I'm guessing taste bland, but she really likes this!

K/D dog food
My Chihuahua recently diagnosed with high kidney values. Started her on KD kidney care or dry kibble combined with KD kidney care chicken and vegetable stew. She loves the food, she has no more vomiting no more soft stools and is putting all the weight back on that she lost from not eating. I would recommend this food highly for any dogs with kidney disease it has been a lifesaver.
